Thank you to our many grandparents who attended our Title One sponsored event, "Grits for Grandparents" Breakfast. It was awesome seeing so many of our grandparents on campus. #familyengagement
School Announcements
1. Interested in joining PTO?
- We are looking to expand our membership, and we would love for you to become a part of our organization.
- We will host a planning meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 20th @ 8:30am
- The PTO meeting will be hosted at Lemira.
- Our next school improvement council will be Thursday, October 12th @ 4:30pm.
2. "Talk like a Pirate" Literacy Day
- We will host our "Talk like a Pirate" literacy day on Tuesday, September 19th.
- Students are allowed to wear pirate costumes.
- We ask that students do not bring toy weapons.
- Throughout the school day, students will engage in various literacy activities.
- We will have special guest on campus conducting various presentations with students.
3. Student Council Induction Ceremony
- Congratulations to our students who were nominated into Student Council.
- We will host an induction ceremony for officers and members on Monday, September 25th @ 5:30pm.
- Parents and guest are encouraged to attend.
- The event will be hosted at Lemira (Cafeteria)
4. Step Team: Wednesday, Sept. 20th
- Step Team Tryouts will be open for grades 3rd - 5th.
- Auditions will begin at 2:45pm and end at 4:30pm.
- Parents are asked to pick up up their scholars on time.
- A rubric will be used to select students who have met the requirements.
5. Title One Parent University: Sept. 28th
- Come join us for our annual "Parent University".
- Important topics will be discussed to ensure your scholar and yourself will have a productive and successful school year!
- This event will be Thursday, Sept. 28th from 6:00pm - 7:30pm.
6. Third Grade Read to Succeed:
- Parents: Please be advised that the Third Grade Retention Initial Notification was distributed to parents of third grade students last week.
- Please sign and return the acknowledgment form if you have not done so. More information will be shared about the Read to Succeed (R2S) Retention during our Parent University on 9/28.
7. March of Dimes Fundraiser
- Please join Lemira as we raise money for a worthy cause, March of Dimes.
- You may contribute to this worthy cause by donating on our website: https://www.marchforbabies.org//team/lemiraelementary
- We will also have a March of Dimes table set up at our events. You may purchase a wrist bracelet or "Sign Card" to display on our March of Dimes Wall.
- A March of Dimes Canteen will also be availabe for student support.
8. Exact Path (Homework Extension)
- Congratulations to students who were recognized for recieving the August Exact Path Top Trophies.
- Parents, please encourage students to continue to log into Exact Path, even while at home to build their skills in the areas of Reading and Math.
- Each day, all of our students participate in an enrichment block, in which they spend 30 minutes working on skills catered to their independent level in Exact Path.
9. Blue Communication Homework Folders:
- Each student has or will recieve a "Blue Communication" folder on their first day of entrance.
- Please ask your scholar for the folder. Important paperwork is included, which will require your signatures.
- Please check this folder daily for any upcoming events or important news.
- Your scholar's classroom "Week at a Glance" will also be included, which contains homework, upcoming test, etc."
10. Parent Portal and Power-School
- Please make sure your information has been updated in Power-school.
- We want to ensure we have accurate numbers on file in case of emergencies.
- Also, please ensure you have access to Parent Portal so you are able to view grades live.
11. Spirit Fridays:

Parents, Help your Child Feel Confident
- By age seven or eight, many children become self-conscious. A critical inner voice says things like, “That’s stupid” or “You can’t read”. You can help your child develop confidence.
- Don’t criticize your child for worrying. Let your child know often that you think he is a great kid. Your calm attitude and your constant reassurances will build a positive inner voice for your child.

- 9/19 is International Talk Like a Pirate Day. Testing out your pirate language helps with parodic speaking.
- Create a pirate name using this formula:
1.Pick a color.
2.Choose an animal.
3.Name a profession.
4. Put steps 1-3 together to create your name.
