My Dad, who is still with us, was a millwright by trade. A millwright is a craftsman or skilled tradesman who installs, dismantles, maintains, repairs, reassembles, and moves machinery in factories, power plants, and construction sites. He spent a lot of time in the bay area factories like Numi, Mother's Cookies, FMC, Libbys, Gallo, Chevron, etc. I used to go to work with him in the Summer months and I really wanted to work with my hands. While it is an honest living, he encouraged me to go to school first and then if I wanted to go into the trades, he would support my choice. No one in my family had ever gone to college and it was important to my dad that I pursue that path.
As we approach Labor Day, it is important to remember that it is a national holiday dedicated to honoring the hard work and contributions of workers across the country. This holiday celebrates the achievements of the labor movement and recognizes the vital role that workers play in building and sustaining our communities, economy, and nation. Labor Day serves as a reminder to be grateful for the rights and benefits we enjoy today, such as fair wages, safe working conditions, and reasonable hours—many of which were hard-won through the efforts of past generations. As we enjoy this day of rest, let's take a moment to appreciate the dedication and effort of all workers, past and present, who have helped shape a better future for everyone.

Brand new"ish" news...
•Mark the Crossing Guard~ Mark, who works as our crossing guard right in front of our school every day, will be out for a few weeks for a much needed vacation. He has yet to secure a substitute for his absence and that lead to some discussions about recruiting folks to help with this much needed position. If you are interested in being a crossing guard, or subbing while he is out, check out the attached photo and visit their website at http://acmssafety.com/careers/
•Parking~ Please do not park in the staff parking lot for pick up or drop off. We do not have enough spaces for our entire staff and it is difficult for them to have to park down the street. Thank you
•Picture Day~ Mark your calendars for picture day. It is Sept 19th!
•Want to Volunteer in a classroom? ~ We are NOW ready for volunteers. If you have connected with your child's teacher and their is a need for a volunteer, please apply (or re-apply if you volunteered last year) through Raptor. You have to reapply every year. If you were fingerprinted last year, you DO NOT need to get fingerprinted again. Julie, our Office Specialist, will be clearing volunteers ASAP. Please check out the website for updates on getting cleared to volunteer.
•Community Service Day - September 7, 2024, 8:00 am - 1:00 pm~ This event is being run by the District Office. I have asked for help with the garden, washing windows and painting the red and yellow drop off stripes in the front of the school. Registration is OPEN to participate in an incredible day of giving back to our schools and the Livermore community. Projects for all ages and abilities will be hosted at the following school sites: Christensen, Granada, Joe Michell, Junction, Livermore, Marylin, and Sunset.
If you are interested in volunteering at a school site or at another location in Livermore, visit LivermoreCA.gov/CSD for a list of projects and registration information. After the work is completed, a celebration event will be held at Las Positas College at 11:30 am offering a FREE lunch for volunteers, entertainment by Crawdad Republic, and a volunteer vendor fair for opportunities to serve all throughout the year.
•Please Consider the Chromebook Insurance~ It is literally $22 bucks. I don't think I can get a latte at Starbucks for $22 bucks anymore. I'm not honestly sure who thought trusting a 3rd grader with a computer was a "good Idea", but at least the insurance covers the mishapps that WILL happen.

In accordance with security guidance, IT has updated student passwords to 9-digits. That means students with 8-digit student IDs will need to add a leading zero and students with 7-digit student IDs will need to add two leading zeros to be able to log in. Students with 9-digit student IDs or who had previously changed their password to a personal password were not affected.
If students need help, they can get help from their teachers when school starts.
