Principal Message
It is hard to believe we are in the last marking period for the 24-25 school year. While we have so much to celebrate, there is a lot of learning left to take place. We appreciate your child being in attendance and here on time daily.
Please take note of the upcoming 3rd-5th grade STAAR assessments. Our students have worked hard all year and we look forward to seeing great things. We ask that your child get a good night's rest and eat a healthy breakfast. Please be sure your child comes to school with a fully charged computer and is here by 8:45 am. Due to potential make ups, lunch visitors will not be allowed on the weeks of testing. We will not be able to accommodate lunch deliveries on April 8th, April 15th and April 29th.

Monthly Character Traits
(Gleason will introduce the trait the first Wednesday of each month)
April: Charity
As part of the CFISD’s Bringing Out the Best Program (BOTB), we are focusing on Charity for the month of April. The definition of charity is aid, assistance or support given to those in need. Our Student Council is helping us teach charity by hosting a Cereal Drive May 9th-15th. As you collect cereal in preparation of the Cereal Drive, please help us by discussing the importance of supporting others that need assistance.

Reminders for a Successful Testing Day:
Think and speak positively about testing.
Check your child’s thoughts. Are they absolutely true? Are they based on facts? Are you assuming the worst or jumping to conclusions? Replace these thoughts with realistic and positive thoughts.
Being successful on testing is important, but please remember success is different for each child. Your child needs to hear this from you. Success means:
Best Effort
Growth
Diligence
Get a good night's sleep the week before testing. Have technology out of the bedroom to ensure a good night’s sleep.
Eat a healthy breakfast at home or at school.
Help ensure your child arrives at school on time.
Pack your bag: Computer fully charged, headphones if needed, water
Pack you lunch: Healthy lunch
Pick out your clothes the night before: layers for comfort

At any time, if your family is needing resources for emotional health, financial support, or going through a family change, please reach out. I am a resource for your child. Here are some of the available resources.
5th Grade Parents:
Thank you for your continued support in helping set your child up for success in 6th grade. Please continue to watch for School Messengers, the PAWS Newsletter and all the flyers can be found in the Parent Information: Middle School Transition 25-26 folder.
All 5th graders have been scheduled for their elective. Most students will be scheduled for their first choice on their elective sheet and physical education/pre-athletics. Art only has 24 seats available for Gleason students, so some students who chose art have to be in their second elective choice. The elective sheets have been passed onto your child’s zoned middle school. The middle school administration will be looking at class sizes. Randomly, some students will be moved to their second or third choice due to managing class sizes. Lastly, if your child’s elective is band or orchestra here are the dates for your child to go to Cook Middle School to pick out his/her instrument.
Band
Orchestra
I am currently scheduling your child's 25-26 courses. Your child’s courses will be available to be viewed and checked the week of April 21, 2025- April 30, 2025. This is called Course Verification. You will have the opportunity to review course selections by logging into your parent Home Access Center (HAC) account. Instructions will be sent out via School Messenger closer to verification time. A Google Form will be available for you to request a change.
6th Grade Courses
Language Arts (reading and writing block)

Physical Education/Pre-Athletics
Elective- students were scheduled for their first choice. Art only has 24 seats. Some students were placed into their second choice. Dyslexia takes the place of an elective.

The third number represents service. 1 = K-level 2= On-level 3= Accommodations Only 4= In Class Support for Special Education 6= Horizons/GT 7= Essential for Special Education 8= Basic for Special Education The fourth number represents semester (1- 1st semester, 2- 2nd semester, 3- entire year) Classes and Services pending qualifications: On-level Services move at a regular pace. Students will be assigned on-level classes if he/she does not have a yearly average of 85% or higher and does not receive other services. K-level Services move at a faster pace.
Scheduling will be tentatively based on the 3rd 9-weeks. K-level letters went home to fifth graders who earned an 85% or higher yearly average on Friday, March 21, 2025. Once the 4th marking period is completed, I will check yearly averages again and make any scheduling updates.
Also, earning “Masters Grade Level” on the Science, Social Studies, and/or Reading STAAR exam or scoring in the 60th percentile on the Math STAAR exam.
Students receiving Gifted and Talented Services
Must meet K-level requirements to be placed into HORIZON classes.
Exception is World Cultures. This is the only HORIZONS class that is purely students who receive GT services.
Students receiving ESL or Bilingual Services
At this time, students will be scheduled for the services he/she is currently receiving.
Students may enter K-level language arts if he/she exits the ESL/BIL program by scoring Advanced High on TELPAS and passing STAAR Reading.
Students Receiving Special Education Services or 504 Services
I will schedule the students based on their individual plan. Some accommodations and modifications are not allowed in K-level because it will alter the pace or rigor of the class.
If you have any questions about your child’s schedule please feel free to reach out to me at elizabethr.salazar@cfisd.net.
Credit-By-Exam
Students in grades K-8 will have four opportunities during the school year to use “credit-by-exam” to accelerate to another grade level or accelerate in math only. Students are permitted to have one opportunity to test for each grade level or math course considered.
To apply to take the test to skip kindergarten, a student must be 5 by September 1, and registered with a CFISD school. To apply to take the test to skip grade 1, a student must be 6 by September 1, and enrolled in a CFISD school.
Students who earn scores of 80% or better on each component of the credit-by-exam for grade level acceleration will qualify to advance one grade. Students who earn a score of 80% or better on the math credit-by-exam assessment will qualify to advance one grade level in math. Only one grade level may be “skipped” each year. No retests will be given.
If you are interested in getting more information about credit-by-exam, please contact your school counselor.
A Note From The Nurse...Mrs. Nguyen
Please remember to pack a spare set of clothes (socks and underwear) in case of bathroom accidents or drink spills. PreK and KG should have several sets. Borrowed clothes should be returned clean to clinic as soon as possible since we are running very low.
Parents should anticipate a call from the clinic to provide clothing if the student does not have a spare set and if the clinic is out of clothes in their size.
We are looking for gently used girls/boys shorts, new girls/boys underwear donations (size Small-Medium/6-8), and baby wipes. Thank you so much!
Watch D.O.G.S
Thank you to all dads who visited our school and volunteered this year! We hope to see you in our halls again next year.
