Students will also be examining numerous reading and writing strategies in preparation for the Keystone Exams. Students will also begin or continue working with the IXL program.
English 11 - Students have begun a focus on literature written in the literary era of romanticism. This includes an examination of the subgenre of “dark romanticism” and the literary concept of an archetype. Some of the literary works that will be read and analyzed are “The Devil and Tom Walker” “The Pit and the Pendulum.”
English 12 - Students are currently moving into reading literature of the Middle Ages, which includes Chaucer’s The Canterbury Tales. Along with the text, students will inspect the role of characterization within various individual tales from the work and the concept of a frame narrative.
Health & PE
Driver Education
Driver Education students have been engaging in activities to raise awareness about distracted driving by creating posters and podcasts. They also explored the serious consequences of drinking and driving. As part of this, they used “drunk goggles” to simulate impairment and participated in field sobriety tests.
Next, the class will move on to Unit 4, which focuses on essential driving skills like turning, signaling, and most importantly parking! Students will practice perpendicular and parallel parking using the driving simulators.
Unified PE
Unified PE has implemented stretching routines and warm-ups, with students taking turns leading the exercises, a highlight they thoroughly enjoy. Recently, the focus has been on volleyball, dance, and basketball. The class is now transitioning to skills like tossing, rolling, and throwing, practicing these by aiming at bowling pins.
Physical Education
After completing their dynamic warm-ups, PE students have been participating in volleyball, basketball, and weight room activities. The next unit will feature options including badminton, spikeball, basketball, and continued weight room sessions.
Reminder: Please ensure students wear sneakers and avoid wearing jeans to class every day!
Health and Wellness
Health students are currently midway through the sex education curriculum. So far, they have learned about the male and female reproductive systems, pregnancy, and childbirth. The class is now transitioning to the topic of sexually transmitted infections.
Math
Mrs. Harvey’s geometry classes recently took an interesting approach to studying logical reasoning and conditional statements. While students at first are puzzled by the amount of writing in their geometry class, conditional statements are the foundation of logical reasoning. Conditional statements help us understand how to form and analyze arguments, they are essential for writing proofs, and they provide a framework for understanding relationships between geometric concepts.
Mrs. Harvey’s students recently applied their learning of conditional statements to advertisements of popular American brands. Students created their own artwork while practicing the structure of logic statements and seeing how “truth in advertising” is a matter of understanding the true meaning of a sentence.
Science
Anatomy
Students wrapped up the Skeletal System unit and started exploring the Integumentary System (skin and connective tissue). They completed a Fake Wound Lab and created Skin Tissue Boxes, which they’re presenting to their teachers this week. (Check out the attached pictures!)
Biology
Students studied how living things make and use energy through photosynthesis and cellular respiration. They observed plant cells under a microscope, experimented with how light impacts photosynthesis rates in aquatic plants, and measured cellular respiration in both germinating and dormant seeds.
Honors Biology 2
Students completed a Genetics unit and conducted research projects on specific genetic disorders.
Chemistry
Students finished a unit on energy, where they used calorimeters to measure energy changes and calculated specific heat. Now, they’re diving into the periodic table, exploring periodic trends through hands-on activities.
Social Studies
Students in Ms. Wright’s AP World History class created posters reflecting “Autopsy of an Empire.” Students presented these projects along with obituaries for an empire from the 1450-1750 era in order to explore continuities in imperial decline. (pics attached)
9th Grade Western Civilizations students have been examining the historical impact of absolute monarchies in 16th and 17th century Europe as well as the origins of constitutional monarchies in England and beyond.
11th grade students in Mr. Forward’s Civics classes have concluded a thorough examination of all 27 Amendments to the US Constitution.

Cundari's Engineering Classes
To celebrate Thanksgiving, I share a bit of Massachusetts history and cranberry farming, a tradition in my family. My uncles are cranberry growers, and my father was a civil engineer specializing in designing cranberry bogs. We explore the engineering behind cranberry farming, watch a food show called Pitchin’ In featuring my family, and wrap up with a raw cranberry tasting. Check out this video of student reactions for a laugh!
In Digital Electronics, students took on a “zesty” challenge—creating batteries using lemons! We also wrapped up a soldering unit, with a special shoutout to Beyza for her stellar work. She successfully programmed her random number generator to cycle through all the numbers—an impressive feat! Watch her project in action here.
