Mission Moment
Highland Walk-a-Thon
Highland students and staff walked to raise money for our Angel Fund. The Angel Fund is used to help students and families who might need a little help paying for items such as winter wear or other items students need for school.
Highland's Playground
Our playground is complete! We have our new play equipment, the field, new striping on the ground for games (including pickleball!), the gaga pit re-installed...it is a complete transformation and the children have really been enjoying it!
For maximum enjoyment by students, a couple of notes to point out:
During school hours, the playground is for the use of the school only. Please don't bring little ones to play or arrive early for pickup to play for awhile. For the safety of all of our students, we cannot have others on the playground when school is in session.
School playgrounds are, by Village of Skokie ordinance, dog-free. Our new signage has been installed to alert dog owners. Dogs are not allowed on the playground at any time, including weekends. While the new grass seems like a great place for Fido to run free on a Saturday afternoon, it is not allowed.
Your cooperation with both of these items is very much appreciated.
Halloween
We will have Halloween parties on Thursday, October 31 from 2:30-3:30. The children really enjoy when their grownups can come to this event so we hope you will be able to make it!
A few reminders:
- Costumes should not be worn to school in the morning. We will put them on in the early afternoon. We strongly encourage costumes to be fantasy based; violent characters or weapons are not permitted.
- We will have a parade at about 3:10 pm with all of the visitors going to the playground to be the spectators. If it is too cold or rainy, we will parade indoors.
- Remember that taking pictures and video are not allowed during the school day. Cameras should be away, allowing both for student privacy and for you to be simply enjoying the moment, both in the classroom and during the parade. It is unpleasant for staff to have to approach to ask that you put your camera away so we thank you in advance for your cooperation.
As National Bullying Prevention Month wraps up, we celebrate the progress made toward creating kinder, more inclusive environments. This month highlighted the importance of standing up against bullying, educating others, and building empathy. The message continues year-round: everyone has a role in fostering respect and acceptance in schools, workplaces, and communities.
