President's Message
Please join us on February 3rd at 9:30am for a tour and interactive demonstration of the JRMS STEM lab with Mr. Kelly from the Fine & Practical Arts: STEM, STEAM, Robotics, Graphic Design & Woodworking program. We will gather in the JRMS Community Room and depart for the tour following a brief PTA business and Principal’s update.
Additionally, if scheduling permits, Dr. McKinnon, ER9 Superintendent, may join us in person or via Zoom to provide an ER9 budget update as we head into a busy budget season and community vote.
We hope you’ll join us and look forward to seeing many of you on Thursday.
Important Message about JRMS Socials
Traditionally, grades 5-7 enjoy four socials per year, while 8th graders enjoy three plus two semi-formal dances, the Snowball and Graduation dances. While health restrictions necessitated cancellation and postponement of most of the events over the past two years, we were excited to be able to offer an outdoor social this past Fall. It was welcomed with nearly 100% attendance and featured DJ music, pizza and ice-cream, limbo contests, volleyball, basketball and gaga games, 9-square-in-the-air, minute-to-win-it challenges and raffle prize drawings. We are encouraged at the prospect of holding outdoor Spring socials as conditions permit.
These school-sponsored activities rely on the JRMS PTA to foster and facilitate each event and they would not be possible without the generous donation of time from the parent volunteers who organize them.
Presently, our 7th grade chairperson (or co-chairpersons) position is open. With an anticipated Spring social, it is critical that we fill this position. Without a dedicated parent or two, the social will not be possible. Ideally, two parents per grade partner to co-chair and organize the four events throughout the year under the guidance and assistance of a PTA Socials Director. In a perfect scenario, these co-chairs will follow their students through 8th grade and enjoy the benefits of built-upon experience and consistency. The co-chairs organize the games, refreshments, prizes and chaperones for their grade.
We are also in need of a PTA Socials Director to oversee big picture planning and act as liaison with school administrators. It’s a wonderful opportunity to work with various staff and faculty and guide these fabulous events. Ideally this person would have some prior experience with socials to understand how they run, but any dedicated parent would be a wonderful addition to the team and could be up to speed in no time.
Please reach out at jrmsptainfo@gmail.com to inquire about the open positions. Our next social is expected to take place tentatively in May and there will be multiple opportunities to help during the event for those who are unable to make a larger commitment. Thank you for your consideration.

Have you Heard...
Robotics Club Collaboration: We are hoping Robotics can find a place at JRMS next school year, but in the meantime, determined parents pooled resources and collaborated with the PTA to get the club rolled out independently starting this February. Thank you to Serene Zegarelli for making this opportunity possible for our students. While registration has reached the maximum for this session, we are encouraged at the prospect of seeing the Robotics Club rolled into the JRMS club portfolio next year. Stay tuned.
The yearbook deadline for recognition ads and 8th grade (only) baby photos has been extended to Feb 17th.
