What's new with Watkins Middle?

• Reminder that there is no school for students on Monday December 2nd, this is a waiver day.
• Please be sure that students are dressed appropriately for the weather. We will continue to go outside for recess, weather permitting. When recess is outside all students will be required to report outside, and therefore its important that they have the appropriate attire.
• Our concert choir will be traveling to several assisted living facilities this month to perform. Different groups will be travelling on the 10th & 17th of this month.
• The annual winter Orchestra concert will take place December 11th here at WMS. Families will be able to access the auditorium through the front doors prior to the 6pm start time. The winter band concerts will take place the following night December 12th in the high school auditorium. Sixth grade band will start at 6:30pm. Warrior, Gold, and Symphonic bands will begin performances at 8:00pm.
• December club day will fall on Friday 12/13.
• Interim grades should be visible to families by midweek of this week. Our message to students has been to make use of every minute. With three weeks until our next break opportunities for academic recovery will be limited. Once we return in January we have two weeks until the end of the semester.
• The school has received some complaints about drivers that continue to try and skirt the drop off procedures. We've received calls about parents using the neighborhood courts south of the school, dropping of students in the middle of warrior way, parking in staff spots, driving around established lines, etc. While we understand that everyone has places to be, please be aware that all of these things inconvenience others and contribute to slower times for everyone else. Please be patient and abide by the procedures and areas listed below on the map.

• With the holiday season arriving we recognize that not all students have the same opportunities to enjoy the holidays. If your family is in need of assistance please fill out this form.

Hometown Ticketing

• Varsity Ticket events are $7 up to 1 hour before the event. At the gate tickets are $8 (use of a card includes a fee at the gate). Middle School tickets are $5.

• All athletes should enter and exit the building through the 600 hall (Door 7) entrance before and after practice each day.

• 12/2-Waiver Day-No school for students
• 12/10 & 12/17-Choir assisted living facility performances
• 12/11-Orchestra concert @ WMS
• 12/12-Band concerts @ WMHS
• 12/14-Lego Robotics competition @ WMS
• 12/21 thru 1/5-Winter break (Students return Monday 1/6)

Bus concerns:

We ask that you please contact the Transportation Department directly at 740-927-5901 with any concerns about your student’s bus (late arrival or other issues). Their phones are manned 6:00 am to 5:00 pm, and they have direct contact with all buses.

Attendance:

Please call the 24 hour WMS attendance line at (740) 927-6807 to report student absences. This voicemail box is available 24/7 and messages are retrieved on school days between the hours of 7:00am through 3:00pm.

If your student will miss school due to a pre-planned absence, please complete this Trip/Vacation Authorization Form.
