Greetings families!

We are super excited to kickoff an amazing 24-25 school year here at Promise Prep. We want to welcome all of our new families! There are great schools all over; however, we are honored that you chose Promise Prep. Welcome back to all of our returning faces. It makes our hearts smile to see so many returning students!

We are excited to partner with you as we work towards cultivating and shaping the minds of each of our students. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or are looking for ways to get involved!

It is imperative that scholars attend school on time every day. We understand there are situations where scholars may be sick or have to go to an appointment or family emergency. Please do your best to schedule all appointments outside of school hours. Promise Prep's doors open at 7:30 every morning. After 7:45 am scholars are considered tardy. In the event your scholar will be absent from school, please reach out to the front office manager, Ms. Velazquez, mailto:avelazquez@phalenacademies.org or via phone at 317-998-4643.

Here are a few effects of scholars missing school:

1. Missed Lessons = Falling Behind: Even one day can mean missing critical instructions and activities, making it harder for your child to catch up.
   

2. Impact on Future Success: Consistent attendance is a strong predictor of academic achievement and future opportunities.

3. Building Resilience: Regular attendance teaches your child the value of perseverance and responsibility—essential skills for success in life.

4. Stronger Friendships: Daily presence helps your child develop and sustain friendships, which are crucial for emotional and social development.

5. Healthy Routine: Attending school every day establishes a stable routine, promoting better mental and physical health.

To combat chronic absenteeism, our school social worker, Mrs. Williams, will reach out to families with tips and suggestions to support getting scholars to school. After so many absences, Mrs. Williams will send letters, conduct visits, and may have to reach out to other channels (DSC, The Prosecutor's Office). Families we cannot stress to you just how important it is to ensure scholars are present everyday. Everyday of school counts!

When your child is sick, it’s important to know when they should stay home from school. If they have a contagious disease, keep them home. This will help them get better faster and keep their classmates and teachers healthy. Please be sure to notify the school.

Talk to your child’s doctor or health care provider if you are unsure if they should stay home from school. As a general rule, your child should not go to school if they have:

• A fever over 100.4° Fahrenheit (F) or 38° Celsius (C) – Your child can return to school after they’ve been fever-free for 24 hours without antipyretics. Antipyretics are medicines that treat or prevent fever

Signs they are weak and tired. This is common with the flu.

• Diarrhea – Having loose poop (stool) more often that isn’t caused by a change in diet.
• Throwing up (vomiting) – More than 2 times in a 24-hour period.
• Coughing that disrupts normal activity.
• Wheezing or get short of breath.
• Pain from earache, headache, sore throat, or recent injury.
• Yellow or green drainage from the eye(s).
• A new rash – Not all rashes mean your child must stay home from school. Check with their doctor or health care provider.

Contagious Disease

A contagious disease is one that can be spread by close contact with a person or object. Your child must stay home from school if they have a contagious disease. They may be contagious before showing any signs of illness.

• Good hand washing will help prevent the spread of germs. Teach your child to wash their hands often, especially after using the bathroom and before eating.
• Wash hands with soap and warm water . Wash for 20 seconds, or the time it takes to sing the ABCs or Happy Birthday.
• They may also use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer. It must contain at least 60% alcohol. Rub on hands until dry.

October 1: Count Day Every Day counts. All scholars are expected to attend school, we will have a fun school-wide Celebration

It is imperative that all scholars dress for success everyday. With that as of September 16, we will enforce the Promise Prep Uniform Policy.

Uniform Shirts- All scholars are required to wear a Solid, Collar Red or Gray polo.

Polos may be long or short sleeved.

Scholars are not permitted to wear t-shirts unless it is a dress down day or the t-shirt is a PLA t-shirt.

As the seasons change and the temperature drops we encourage scholars to dress for the weather.

Scholars may wear solid color (red, grey, Black) long sleeve shirts under their uniforms.

Pants: Solid, Black, Navy or Khaki, or jeans

No rips or cuts.

Walking length shorts/skirts limited to no more than 2” above the knee

SCHOLARS ARE NOT PERMITTED TO WEAR JOGGERS.

SWEATER /SWEATSHIRTS (non-hooded)

All Grades: Solid, Red, Gray, White, Black

No logos or prints on front or back

Unless, wearing a PLA provided sweater/sweatshirts

SHOE/BOOTS

Any color acceptable

Must be: Closed heel or strap heel

Closed toes

NO CROS or Shoes with Wheels

As a reminder as of September 16, we will enforce our uniform policy. Repeated violations will receive a consequence.

We do not require scholars to wear logo'd uniform shirts, however, logoed uniforms can conveniently be purchased by visiting this site.

• At recess we treat the equipment nice
• At recess we stay in our designated areas
• At recess we keep our feet, hands and other objects to ourselves
• At recess we are safe

Restrooms:

• In the restrooms we wait our turn
• In the restrooms we only put toilet paper in the toilets
• In the restrooms we wash our hands with soap
• In the restrooms we use quiet voices
• In the restrooms we do not make a mess
• In the restrooms we use kind words
• In the restrooms we keep our hands, feet and other objects to ourselves

Building Dreams is a comprehensive SEL program that Equips Administrators with the data they need to support their teachers and students. Building Dreams supports teachers with resources to improve classroom management and student behavior issues, and engages students with a fun, gamified program that rewards their responsible decision making and ultimately helps meet their needs.

Parents we strongly encourage you to sign-up for your parent account. Check your scholar's bookbag for a simple way to signup using your cellular device. Need a new sign-up sheet, feel free to call the front office and we will ensure your scholar goes home with a form that day!

We understand emergencies happen, however, it is the Promise Prep way that we ensure every scholar gets to their destination safely upon departure from our school. We will not accept transportation changes after 1:00 PM. In the event you need to change your scholar's transportation for the day, please call the front office no later than 1:00PM.

Buses: If you have moved and need to request a new stop please call or text 317-754-7348 this is the number to our transportation department. You may also follow up with the school and we will follow up with transportation. Please note it does take a few days for new transportation changes to be completed.
