Egg Harbor Township High School
Week of September 8, 2024
A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL
As we wrap up the second week of school, our students have settled into their routines, mastered their schedules, claimed their favorite lunch spots, and are diving into the wide range of extracurricular activities EHTHS has to offer. It’s been a fantastic start to the year!
This week, the Assistant Principals met with each grade level to review the expectations for the 2024-25 school year. Families are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the Student Handbook, which is always available on the High School website. Additionally, our sophomore class received information on purchasing class rings.
We are thrilled to announce that the EHT location of Philadelphia Pretzel Factory is recognizing two CAL athletes weekly for their achievements. This week’s winners are Camille More (tennis) and Xavier Cocci (football), who will each receive a pretzel gift certificate from the store. Congratulations!
The 2024 Communicative and Adaptive Surf Trip was a huge success, thanks to perfect weather, warm water, and ideal waves. Our students had a blast either surfing or cheering on their classmates, with some riding their first wave and others improving on last year’s progress. We would like to thank the following dedicated staff that made this event a success: Max Mittelman, Ryan Platt, Ray Leak, Ken Keim, Anthony Pecchia, Bailey Hurst, Logan Brown, Andrew Baumgartel, Carolyn Nagle, Dr. Clayton and Kris Henderson. Of course, thank you to all the staff in Mrs. Hodgens', Mrs. Ormond’s, Mrs. James’s, Ms. Maira’s, and Mrs. Borman’s class and the Longport Beach Patrol for working with the students to provide them a fun experience. This unforgettable event was a true team effort and everyone is already looking forward to next year’s trip!
Extracurricular activities are in full swing and we encourage all students to get involved! For students who stay after school, the 3:20 p.m. bus is available for transportation home. Be sure to check EHT-TV for club meeting announcements.
Finally, we’re excited to welcome parents and guardians to Back to School Night on Thursday, September 19. Doors will open at 6:00 p.m. and the event will begin at 6:30. Representatives from ACCC, Stockton University, and the Teen Center will be available in the Commons Area to share information about their programs. Additionally, our school store, The Nest, will be open at 6 p.m. for you to grab some awesome EHT gear!
Have a great weekend and we look forward to seeing you at Back to School Night!

2024 Communicative and Adaptive Surf Trip
The 2024 Communicative and Adaptive Surf Trip was too perfect this year. Perfect weather, warm ocean, and beautiful little waves. It all came together thanks to a team effort from the staff and Longport Beach Patrol. Our students were once again provided with the unique opportunity to surf in Longport. Everyone either got in the water or cheered on their classmates which made for a ton of fun. Helping some of the students ride their first wave is an extremely rewarding experience and others were excited to pick up where they left off last year and improve their surfing abilities. I’d like to give a special shout out to all the staff who went above and beyond to make this possible. Thank you to Mr. Ryan Platt, Ray Leak, Ken Keim, and Anthony Pecchia for bringing tents, gear, and helping the students ride some waves. Thank you to our paras Bailey Hurst and Logan for also getting wet and going in the water with the kids. Thank you to Andrew Baumgartel (Alder and LPBP) and Carolyn Nagle (Miller and LPBP) for setting up the event ahead of time on the beach and getting some unbelievable footage and pictures throughout the day. Thank you to Dr. Jillian Clayton, Jacki Carugno and every other administrator involved in making this day possible. Kris Henderson for helping to set up our nurses and buses needed. Of course, thank you to all the staff in Mrs. Hodgens, Mrs. Ormond’s, Mrs. James’s, Ms. Maira’s and Mrs. Borman’s class for working with the kids to provide them a fun experience throughout. Finally, a huge thank you goes to the Longport Beach Patrol for providing hospitality, the surfboards, and the safety throughout the event. The safety plan always matters and everyone did an excellent job maintaining that throughout. We couldn’t have provided the students with such a fun experience without this group effort, and I can’t thank everyone enough for that. The conditions were too perfect this year and hopefully this weather sticks around for some fun local summer days on the beach. Next year can’t come soon enough for the next trip!
Mr. Max
EHTHS Choir and Band Member
Thank You and Great Job to EHTHS Choir and Band Member, Ethan Forman ‘25!
Ethan performed the National Anthem and led those in attendance in the singing of God Bless America for the 9-11 Remembrance Ceremony hosted by the Somers Point Fire Department.
CLIMATE AND CULTURE
Our own Susan Davis performed Saturday night at the Sugar Hill Inn deck where many staff members and their families attended. A great time was had by everyone (especially the kids) as they supported one of their own.
September Faculty of the Month
Congratulations to Mr. Walter who was selected as our September Faculty of the Month! Students selected Mr. Walter because he, "is funny, nice, entertaining and always has a lot of energy." We couldn't agree more!
Deaf Awareness Month
Hello all. September is Deaf Awareness month. I thought it would be nice to include some Deaf Awareness info in our schools' newsletters throughout the month of September. Not sure exactly how you'd want to do it, so I'm starting out by sharing these slides with facts about deafness, tips on how to communicate with deaf friends, etc. Let me know if you need anything else from me.

#DAY 1
The High School will be continuing with this bullying-prevention program for this school year!
#DAY1--a staff and student-led philosophy that will serve to foster a building-wide atmosphere of kindness and inclusion.
This program was started a few years ago in Bergen County by the Tyler Clementi Foundation and has gained momentum throughout the state and country for use in schools, community groups, workplaces, and sports teams.
The premise is simple: the adults in the building make a “declaration statement” about behavior that is expected, as well as behavior that is unacceptable, and we all pledge to conduct ourselves accordingly. This includes seeking help when we witness unacceptable behavior occurring.
This notion is called being an #Upstander. Hit "play" below and see for yourself! 🤩
Has your student taken their #Upstander Pledge yet?!?
Have them sign into their school account and click here! 😊
