Monty's Moments: Celebrate the Good!
Tigers,
We continue to celebrate the good things that are taking place throughout the day at school. We continue to celebrate those what I like to call "lightblub" moments. A lightbulb moment is when maybe a student was struggling with behavior, academics or just feeling overwhelmed ( I think we can all relate). Then one day it clicks and they realize how truly special they are and how they have a team of people (inside and outside of school) that are cheering them on. They realize that they don't have to be the Best IN the World, they need to be the BEST FOR THE WORLD.
So please join our staff in continuing to celebrate all the little things in a child's life that help children to grow and learn each and every day!
As the weather continues to change please make sure that your child has an EXTRA SET of CLOTHES in their lockers! In michigan you never know if it's going to rain, snow or be 80 degress in November so it's important to have that extra set just in case.
Your Partner in Education,
Dr. Keelean
Thank you Sekol Family for the Staff Snacks!!!!!

Resources for Home and School
A few parents have also asked if there is something they can do at home to support their child's reading and math growth. In GPPSS we are lucky to have 3 online programs that you can access at home to support your child:
Lexia
RGR (K-4)
Freckle
All of these can be accessed through your child's Clever Login
Family Center Basic CPR Training

Can I bring in birthday treats for my child’s birthday?
We celebrate birthdays at Monteith by giving each student a birthday book and bookmark during their birthday month.
Due to the large number of student allergies, we no longer can allow any type of birthday cakes, cupcakes or cookies in the elementary schools (except for teacher scheduled celebrations) . Please save the present celebrations for home parties. If students want to bring in a small goodie bag of non-edible items ( Ex: pop-its, pencils, etc.) that is allowed but not necessary. If you do send in something with your child it needs to be for the whole class not just a couple students.
Kindness matters at Monteith and Always!

Library/ Media News
We made big strides in the library with our schoolwide Thanksgiving balloon parade project. The Young 5's and Kindergarten classes designed the balloons on paper. Now, the 1st and 2nd graders are using the designs to build the balloons for the parade. They are working in collaborative groups and creating the balloons using a variety of materials and lots of creativity. Finally, the 3rd and 4th graders are conducting research related to the balloon characters and animals. They are also writing stories about the balloon characters that they will narrate as a voiceover on the parade video. Once the balloons are complete, they will record the balloons in front of the green screen for the video that Mrs. Stackpoole will edit. We hope to have it finished and ready to watch on Tuesday, November 26th to get everyone in a festive mood for the long holiday weekend.
Music News
In Kindergarten music, we learn to keep a steady beat and use a singing voice. We listen and move our bodies to music to demonstrate fast/slow and loud/quiet. Students also learn to play different classroom instruments such as drums, boomwhackers, rhythm sticks, and maracas.
Art News
Kindergarten students studied textiles made by Native Americans and the purpose of their leather pouches which was for carrying special objects. Students discussed Native American Pictographs and symbols and their meaning. First, we folded our paper to create a pouch shape with a flap. Next, we glued the sides together. Students then selected three pictographs to draw, which had personal meaning to the students. Lastly, we punched holes in the sides and tied a string to each side so that we can carry our pouches wherever we want!
