Northview HS Newsletter
September 30 , 2024 Volume 2, Number 6
Northview Familia,
We celebrated the 25th day of school on September 24. Northview students had an average daily attendance rate of 96.7%. Keep it up, Vikings!
There are so many great things going at Northview. I would like to congratulate our Marching Band for placing in first place in Division 1A at the Bonita Field Show this past weekend.
Northview Senior, Sophia Gomez, is on a cultural exchange wrestling program. She's training with athletes from China.
We received notification from College Board that Northview has earned AP Silver Honor Roll recognition for the 2023-2024 school year. AP School Honor Roll recognizes schools whose AP programs are delivering results for students while broadening access. Schools can earn this recognition annually based on criteria that reflect a commitment to increasing college-going culture, providing opportunities for students to earn college credit, and maximizing college readiness.
Additionally, Northview High School received the AP Access Award. This award recognizes our school's clear and effective commitment to AP equity and access. Northview truly is the home of scholars and champions.
Our first ACE Mentor meeting will take place on Tuesday, October 8, 2024 in room F-2. See you there!
Our counselors are hosting a college presentation on Wednesday, October 2 at 4:45pm in the library, which will be followed by our ELAC Meeting (5:30pm) and School Site Council Meeting (6:00pm). Our PTSA is hosting their monthly meeting at 6:30pm, also in the library.
This past Saturday, a group of Northview students attended the WINGS conference at Duarte High School, where they developed leadership skills and embraced empowerment. They returned inspired to strengthen unity and sisterhood within our school community.
Have a great week, Vikings!
SAT Day
We are excited to announce our annual SAT Day, taking place on Wednesday, October 9, 2024. The SAT is a key exam used by many colleges and universities to determine admissions, and it also opens up scholarship opportunities for students who perform well. More than just a test, it's a chance for students to get a sense of their college readiness.
On SAT Day, all students will be taking a version of the SAT that’s tailored to their grade level:
- 9th Graders: Digital PSAT 8/9
- 10th Graders: Digital PSAT/NMSQT
- 11th Graders: Digital PSAT/NMSQT
- 12th Graders: Digital SAT
To help students prepare, CollegeBoard and Khan Academy offer personalized SAT prep materials for free. You can access step-by-step instructions HERE to get started.
Please note: ALL students will be released early at 12:34 PM on Wednesday, October 9th.
We look forward to a successful SAT Day and are here to support our students every step of the way!
Go Vikings!
PTSA Update
The PTA Reflections Art Program has been bringing the arts to life for more than 10 million students since 1969. This amazing program increases community awareness of the importance of the arts in education. Reflections encourages students to unleash their creative talents to express themselves while tapping into their critical thinking skills to create art inspired by the annual theme.
This year's theme is Accepting Imperfection. We invite all Northview students to offer their interpretation in one of the following categories: Visual Arts, Photography, Music Composition, Literature, Film Production, and Dance Choreography. Entry forms with all of the category specifications are available in the NHS Counseling Office. Entries are due Tuesday, October 15, 2024.

• The behavior is repeated or there is a concern that it will be repeated
• The behavior is being done intentionally
• The person being hurt has a hard time stopping or preventing the behavior
• The hurtful behavior is carried out by those who have more power, such as students who are older, are physically bigger or stronger, have more social status, or form part of a group that singles out an individual

AVID Future Ready
Our Students had the opportunity to visit USC last week. Students participated in a fifty minute walking tour in which they had the opportunity to visit important buildings at the USC campus. While at USC, we ran into our amazing NHS and AVID alumni: Sabrina Rincon (3rd year), Leslie Zamora Morales (1st year) and Nikki Sanglimsuwan (1st year). We are so proud of our NHS alumni and we are extremely fortunate our students were able to see for themselves that attending USC can become a reality for many of them. FIGHT ON!
Counseling Corner
This week, counselors visited Government classes to provide important information to Seniors regarding their post-secondary plans. They covered a wide range of topics, including:
4-year universities and community college options
Trade, vocational, and military
High school graduation vs. A-G requirements
And much more!
Counselors will return on October 2nd and 3rd to present the second part of this series. We strongly encourage all Seniors to be present for these sessions, as they offer essential insights into preparing for life after high school.
Parent Information Night:
We also invite all Senior Parents and Guardians to attend our College Parent Information Night on October 2nd from 4:45 PM to 5:25 PM. This event will provide parents with valuable information about the college application process, financial aid opportunities, and important upcoming dates for Seniors.
Don’t miss out on this opportunity to support your Senior through this exciting and pivotal time!

Staff Spotlight
This week we would like to introduce Emily Lai. Ms. Lai is our new Biology teacher. To say that she has a true passion for teaching would be an understatement. Not only does she love that biology is about life, but she hopes to ignite a passion for the subject in her students too.
She enjoys creating bioactive terrariums, and creating a cozy vivarium for her lizard and reptiles. It makes owning reptiles sound way more fun!! She also collects and sells plants. Not only is she a science superstar, but a nature enthusiast as well.
When Ms. Lai is not in the midst of being one with nature, she enjoys quality time with her fiance. Her vibe and positive energy for all things really shows.
We thank you for joining the viking family!
From the Office of Ms. Smith
