Newell's News
Dear Skyline GRIZZFAM,
As we near the end of another academic year, I am delighted to reflect on the tremendous accomplishments and growth we've experienced together. This year has been nothing short of fantastic, filled with achievements and milestones that make us proud to be part of the Skyline family.
I'm thrilled to share our remarkable progress in the ISAT scores and participation, showcasing our commitment to academic excellence. Through dedication and hard work, our students have shown significant improvements, a testament to their determination and the unwavering support of our faculty and staff.
Additionally, I am pleased to announce a notable increase in attendance, reflecting our collective efforts to foster a positive and engaging learning environment for all students.
Our Advanced Placement program continues to flourish, with an impressive 191 students undertaking 293 exams across 19 different courses. This remarkable participation underscores our students' eagerness to challenge themselves academically and the dedication of our educators in preparing them for success.
Furthermore, our athletic teams have shone brightly this year, demonstrating resilience, sportsmanship, and a commitment to excellence in every competition. Their achievements reflect the spirit of teamwork and dedication that defines Skyline High School.
As we celebrate these achievements, let us also acknowledge the hard work, dedication, and unwavering support of our entire community – students, parents, teachers, staff, and administrators. Together, we have made this year a resounding success.
I look forward to continuing our journey of growth and excellence in the coming year, guided by our shared values and commitment to empowering every student to reach their fullest potential.
Warm regards,
Joshua Newell

SHS Drama - One Act Competition
38 Skyline High School Drama students attended the Idaho State University One-Act Competition on April 19 & 20, 2024. Skyline’s production of The Dark Road by Laura Lundgren Smith earned the school Top Three Honors at the Competition and was so heartrending that 2 of the judges were moved to tears. The Dark Road chronicles the life of Greta, a young female concentration camp guard, who is tried, convicted, and executed for her war crimes. The gripping play explores how easily one can travel down a dark path and become convinced that evil is good.
Mrs. Sue Parrett applauded her students for the professional manner in which they prepared and presented the show, directed by student teacher Joe Robinson. Just before they took the stage, Mrs. Parrett read the following quote by Holocaust survivor Elie Wiesel; “For the survivor who chooses to testify, it is clear; his duty is to bear witness for the dead and living. He has no right to deprive future generations of a past that belongs to our collective memory. To forget would be not only dangerous but offensive; to forget the dead would be akin to killing them a second time.”
In addition to the Top Three Honors, Skyline senior, Carter Drake, received the award for Best Actor of the competition, and Kaylee Smiddy was selected as Star Cast member. The full cast includes Emily Barton, Ethan Barton, Gwendolyn Craw, Eliza Erickson, Ashlynn Evans, Susana Galvan, Jason Gillespie, Jillian Gillespie,
Charlie McKee, Kalel Noyes, Emmalee Orchard, and Aidan Watrous. Peter McKee and Tyson Evans represented Skyline in the Tech Olympics Competition.
Spanish Club Activities
Cultural and social activities kept Spanish Club members busy and entertained throughout the school year. We started the year with Homecoming. The club decided on Leyendas (urban legends) for the float theme. The next month, Sr. Lundin treated the club to a Venezuelan lunch. In the spring, club members participated in bowling and Blast Off team building activities. Spanish Club officers for this school year are co-presidents Dianna Resendiz-Ramirez and David Holloway and secretary Hannah Vollmer.
Student Gov's Earth Day Celebrations
In honor of Earth Day 2024 SHS Stud Gov spent a little time outside doing a Scavenger Hunt to clean-up the front of the school and parking lot. Teams looked for shiny things, weird things, squishy things, recyclable things, the grossest things and more...taking pictures and having fun in the sun competing to get the fullest bag.
