Message from Dawn & Cam

June is recognized as Pride Month in Canada and around the world. St. Albert Public Schools recognizes Pride Week from June 10th–14th. At SAM School, we will recognize Pride Week with activities that celebrate inclusivity and diversity. Creating an inclusive culture helps support all students, staff and families in being proud of who they are and the unique and important contributions they each share with our community. When each of us sees ourselves represented in spaces in our community, we feel a deeper sense of belonging. An inclusive culture helps prevent students, staff and families from experiencing distress, discrimination, bullying and negative health outcomes, as well as helps prepare students for the diverse world in which they learn and work. To show our support for inclusive and diverse communities, we invite our students, staff and families to wear specific colors throughout the week (MON = Red, TUES = Orange/Yellow, WED = Green, THURS = Blue/Purple, FRI = Rainbow). Together, we hope to create spaces at SAM school where all our students and families can feel a sense of belonging and community.

Thank you to our SAM Families!

A HUGE thank you to all our wonderful SAM families who contributed to an amazing staff appreciation lunch! The SAM Staff loved our Tour of Italy themed day of delicious treats and meals. A special thanks to Celeste Fowler and Melissa Wojcichowsky who took a lead role in organizing and hosting the day!

Used Book Sale

Earlier this year, many of our families donated some of their used books to support our SAM Loves to Read family literacy evening. Even though we sold an amazing amount of books that night, there are still some books left over that would make for excellent summer reading. On Tuesday, June 11th, Division 1 students will have their opportunity to come down with their class to purchase books and Division 2 students will be able to shop during lunch. We will open up the Used Book Shop again on Wednesday, June 12th, during lunch for all students who want to purchase more books.

All books will be priced at $1 for two books! So send your loonies to school and load up the home library for the summer!

Congratulations to our SAM Songsters & Chorus

We have news! Both of our choirs recently participated in the Alberta Provincial Music Festival. We are excited to announce that our SAM Songsters were awarded First Place in the School Chorus Grade 1-3 category, and our SAM Chorus was awarded Second Place in the School Chorus Grade 4-6 category. We are so proud of our amazing students and singers!

SAM Spirit Awards

Each month at our SAM Spirt Assembly we will recognize the incredible contributions of our students, staff, and volunteers who help make SAM an amazing school to come to every day. The SAM SPIRIT Award is a monthly themed award where teachers choose two students from their class to recognize for demonstrating our SAM SPIRIT qualities. This month’s award is called our Dynamite Award. These students demonstrate a spirit that ignites enthusiasm and “blows up” expectations. Congratulations to our SAM Spirit Award Winners!

SAM Yearbook 2023-2024

Once again, families can order a SAM Yearbook for the 20232024 school year. The cost of the yearbook is $24.75 (+ GST) and can be ordered through SMART Photography until July 15th. All yearbooks will be delivered to SAM School in the fall and then distributed to students. Students who move onto our division junior high schools will have their yearbooks delivered to those schools.
