Knighthawk Family News
Pleasant Knoll Middle School
Message from Mr. Young
We hope all of you had a wonderful Spring Break. We are now on the final countdown to the end of the 2018-2019 school year! We have a lot of fun activities planned as well as getting our students prepared for State Testing.
We definitely want to remind all our families about how to help your child with the anxiety and pressure that can happen around this time of year with preparing for all of the state assessments. Please see below for a graphic on test taking tips that will help our students. Also, we encourage you to see the testing schedule below as well. We know that our students are prepared for these assessments. Our teachers and students have worked hard all year to help them be successful. Also, click here for a link from the State Department of Education on an overview of the SC Ready assessment.
Thanks again for your support of Pleasant Knoll Middle School and we look forward to a great end to the school year!
Grey Young, Principal

Nurse's News
The following medication changes will take place next school year 2019-2020 (underlined below):
Non-prescription medications are medicines that you can buy without a written prescription from a health care practitioner. Non-prescription medications are sometimes called “over-the-counter” medicines.
In order for a child to be given non-prescription medicines at school, the child’s parent/guardian must sign a permission form. The medication must be in the original, marked container with the manufacturer’s seal unbroken. A medication permission form (M105) will need to be completed on each medication that is to be given at school
If a non-prescription (OTC) medication is written as a prescription by the health care provider, the child’s health care provider and the child’s parent or guardian must sign a permission form (M105). The medication should be in a labeled bottle by the pharmacy with the child’s name, the name of the medication, and the times of administration. Whenever possible, the expected duration of treatment shall be stated.
If a non-prescription medicine is currently being given at school or home and needed while your child is on a field trip, the parent/guardian must bring and supply the medicine to school by the day of the field trip. It must be in the original, marked container, with the manufacturer’s seal unbroken and have the M105 form completed for each medication and signed by the parent/guardian. Additional labeled bottles may be obtained from your pharmacy. No Ziploc bags will be accepted
A responsible adult should deliver the medicine and the permission form to the school. The medicine must be in the original container with the label on it and manufacturer seal unbroken. The dosage of the medicine cannot exceed the recommended dosage from the manufacturer without a prescription from the child’s health care practitioner.
ATTENTION: 6th GRADE STUDENTS AND PARENTS
Please make an appointment for your child to update their Tdap vaccination before next school year. ALL seventh graders will be REQUIRED to get the Tdap vaccine to protect them against whooping cough (pertussis). One (1) dose of Tdap vaccine (tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis) administered on or after the 7th birthday will be required for all seventh graders. It is strongly recommended that adolescents who have not yet received a dose of Tdap vaccine be immunized in advance of this requirement. Students who are not up to date with their Tdap vaccination may not be allowed to attend school. For more information, please visit www.scdhec.gov/health/vaccinations
Please send a copy of the immunization record to the school nurse once they receive the updated vaccination.

It’s hard to believe that April is here and Spring Break is behind us! It’s a busy time of year for our school and families with many exciting events at PKMS.
The Fort Mill School District 7th Grade Career Fair was held on Friday, April 5 at PKMS. Students from all five middle schools had the opportunity to meet and talk with approximately 75 professionals in a variety of careers. In preparation for the Career Fair, students took an online interest inventory to find their career cluster and they also attended an assembly to help them prepare for the day. In the assembly, FBI Agent John Letterhos spoke to all 7th grade students about his career and tips for exploring careers and networking with professionals. Students also heard the importance of soft skills and demonstrating good eye contact, a clear voice, and a professional handshake. The Career Fair was a great opportunity for students to explore different types of careers and begin thinking about electives they might want to take in high school to further explore their interests. Thank you to all of the presenters, counselors, administration, and teachers who helped make the Career Fair a huge success!
