From the Principal
As we head into the last week of October, the weather has been pleasantly mild, but we know the colder days are just around the corner. This is a good time to remind everyone to prepare for the changing temperatures by dressing in layers and keeping jackets handy for those chilly mornings. Just remember, we enter the building at 8:15 AM and students do wait until that time unless there is severe weather. Our guidelines for weather are aligned with these guidelines.
Pre-K-5th Grade Classroom Parties
We are getting closer to the first classroom party of the year, which will take place on Thursday, October 31st! The AM-Pre-K party will be from 10:00-10:45 a.m. and the PM-Pre-K party will be from 2:15-3:00 p.m. Kindergarten-5th grade will participate in a costume parade on the primary school blacktop at 2:00 p.m. and the classroom party will begin at 2:15 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend the parade outside, but only parents signed up for the party using the signup genius will be allowed into the building. Please have your State ID/Driver’s License available when checking in at the office.

Costumes for Students
As we prepare for seasonal celebrations, please remember the guidelines to ensure that costumes are appropriate, safe, and enjoyable for everyone. We recommend choosing school-friendly themes that avoid horror, gore, or violent characters. All costumes must align with the school dress code, meaning attire should not include inappropriate language, imagery, or references to drugs, alcohol, or violence.
We encourage creative and respectful costume choices. We ask that students refrain from wearing costumes that might be offensive, discriminatory, or perpetuate stereotypes based on culture, race, ethnicity, religion, or gender. Also, costumes should not feature any weapons or props resembling weapons, such as toy guns, swords, handcuffs, or knives, as these items could be perceived as dangerous.
Students should plan ahead, ensuring their costumes do not interfere with regular school activities, including physical education. Finally, costumes should be easy to put on, as students need to be able to use the bathroom independently. Thank you for helping us make this season a fun, safe, and inclusive celebration!

Primary Team Scoop
First graders have been learning about digraphs. Our learning target last week was -ng. Students researched about kangaroos and did an art project to wrap up the week. This week we are learning about -le. Can you guess what we will be doing?
Intermediate Team Ideas
This week, third graders began writing an informative writing piece on animal adaptations. In math, they are practicing multiplication using different strategies. 4th grade students are excited about an upcoming activity that we started called “Descriptive Pumpkins.” Students were able to create a pumpkin and practice their descriptive writing to describe their pumpkin without giving too much away. Students will get the opportunity to read descriptions and then identify the pumpkin that matches the piece of writing! 5th graders analyzed how different chapters of a text add to the overall structure of a novel. They also worked hard drafting letters to send to veterans for Veterans Day.
Middle School Stories
Congratulations to our Students of the Month for October, Tabitha Klingberg and Eva Serrano. Both students consistently demonstrate the positive attitude and work-ethic we at Winfield seek to instill in our students. Well done! Keep up the great work, ladies!
Specials Team Spots
In middle school photography class this week, we went on an autumn leaf scavenger hunt and created beautiful collages. We also started practicing our stop motion video skills with a Level 1 and Level 2 challenge before starting to plan our own videos.
