December: Focus on the Bright Spots
-Adapted from Aguilar's Onward
The Joy of Making Lists
It's hard for us to stay focused on the bright spots when our brains are cluttered with things to keep track of. Do you have running, endless to-do lists? Do you have ideas, dreams, and goals that pop into your mind and distract you? Here are some other kinds of lists to keep that can free up space in your mind to be here now, stay focused, and notice the bright spots.
1. The Someday List: This is a list of things you want to do someday. These are bigger tasks like "apply for a grant to take my kids on an expensive field trip" and "reorganize the science supplies." What would you like to put on your Someday list to start with?
2. The Could-Do List: This is a list of stuff you could do if you felt like it. "Send out a monthly newsletter to parents" or "Send postcards in July to all my new students." What would you like to put on your Could-Do list?
3. The Later list: This is a list of stuff you want or need to do but that you don't need to do right now. This might include reading articles or revisiting workshop materials. What would you like to put on your Later list?

Teacher Spotlight
Meet Ms. Libby Blanco!
Ms. Blanco is a middle school Spanish teacher at Lincoln Charter School in Denver. Her love and care for each individual student is evident as soon as you walk into her room. She is always thinking about new and creative ways to teach her content and excite her students. Ms. Blanco is never satisfied with "good enough" and thinks critically about how to provide each student exactly what they need to be successful.
Ms. Blanco describes her journey into teaching below.
"I was raised on the beautiful island of Puerto Rico by my grandparents. My grandpa is in the picture above (88 years old). I played teacher as a young girl, but did not seriously think about becoming a teacher until later in my life. At church I taught Sunday school and always enjoyed the smiles, spark, energy and creativity that the kids had. Honestly I loved teaching them about life and about Jesus. After I became a mom, I wanted to have a career that allowed me the opportunity to be with my children, so I went back to school to get my teaching certification. I decided to homeschool my boys and used all I had learned to teach them at home. During my homeschooling journey I taught many different classes and co-op groups and my passion for education grew by the minute. I am passionate about seeing every child have those “aha” moments; that brings such joy to my heart! When the time came for my oldest to start high school a new season of my life began and I started subbing. Once again I fell in love with helping students learn and building relationships with them. It is an honor to do something I love at work and I pray that I will inspire my students to be the best they can be, to know they are cared for, they are valuable and capable of learning all new things. Everything is hard at the beginning until we practice, learn and it becomes easier. I am thankful to the Lord for the blessing of allowing me to be in their lives and to teach in a school where the community is welcoming and feels like family."
Ms. Blanco, thank you for everything you do for your students and families!
