Some thoughts for the starting school year
April Principal Updates
- Variety Show: This is our yearly event where our students get to showcase their talent in French! This will happen on Friday, June 7th 2024 at 2:00-3:30 in our Gym. Due to the space constraints, only the families of students who are performing may attend. More information will be shared when we near the event. Families should not arrive early. If you do, you will need to wait in the office or on the playground until we are ready to welcome you.
- End of Day and Transportation Changes - Please, make sure that you call or email Alan Stump and CC the classroom teacher prior to 3 p.m. In the case that someone else, who is not a contact on iUpdate/Campus/School records, will pick up your child/children, you must provide permission in writing via the above method.
- Pre-K- Grade 5 Summer Learning Registration: This opened on March 15th for Pre-K to Grade 5. Please, refer to the SPPS website if you would like to still register.
- New Student Orientation: This event is for new families for garden 1 to 5, and for PreK and K families for the year 24-25. It will be held in our Cafeteria at 4:30-5:30 on May 9th.
Interns: Interns are an integral part of our French immersion programming and I need your help. Interns are like a second educator, they can do small group learning, they can do focused instruction, and they are native speakers of French! Our data shows that having an intern will raise the academic progress and French vocabulary of our students. Without host families, we cannot have interns. We would lose a second educator in the classroom. Our French-speaking interns from around the world to L'Etoile du Nord next year but we cannot do it without you! This is the final call for host families!
We currently have just eight families signed up to host, which means we will only be able to invite 4 interns to join us for the 2024-2025 school year. With such a small number, your student will likely only have an intern working in their class once or twice a week, as opposed to everyday like this year.
Our interns:
• Enhance our program by providing individual and small group attention, language and accent support, and literacy learning.
• Enable our students to experience French as a living language, and learn more about the cultures and traditions of the French diaspora.
• Help our students excel in successfully learning a second language!
If you’ve been thinking of hosting an intern, please apply as soon as possible. The application is short and easy!
Host families must provide a private bedroom, all meals (or ingredients for intern to make meals), and transportation to and from school OR you can use the school bus! Interns live with a family for five months.
