Principal's Message
Good morning Timberwolves Nation!
This past week our students continued their learning by counting and adding in the primary (K-2nd) grades, and our intermediate (3rd - 5th) grades finished up their read alouds and writing. Some of our grades are shifting to science as we rotate between social studies and science. We also practiced our fire drill, and ended the week with a hard lock down drill. We practice these drills so that our students and staff know what to do in the event of a true emergency. Our teachers are also wrapping up their SAEBRS (Social, Academic, and Emotional Behavior Risk Screener) assessment, which allows us to know where students may need the most support socially and emotionally. Thanks to all of our families that came out for the Discovery PlayCE table talks listening session. We were able to give a lot of good input to the Beloit Public Library on this community project.
This upcoming week is a busy one, with Fall Pictures on Tuesday, October 8th. There is also the homecoming parade on Friday, October 11th as well. Let's show our school spirit by wearing any Todd shirt you may have, or the color purple for our school colors which is also Beloit Memorial's school colors. Kindergarten is raising money for field trips and will be selling spirit items for the BMHS homecoming parade this week. They will be selling bead necklaces and headbands for $1 at the start of the day on Thursday and Friday in the kindergarten hallway across from the gym while supplies last.
We also begin our new character trait for the month of October, and that trait is "responsibility". You can download the newsletter for your child(rens) grade level below and do some activities with them throughout the week to reinforce our character value. Here is a fun way to connect as a family this month while practicing Responsibility.
PurposeFull Pursuit #1
As a family, think of ways in which you might make someone’s life a little easier by helping a neighbor or family friend with 1 of their Responsibilities. Could you bring the garbage to the chute or out to the curb? Could you carry things in from the grocery store? Could you invite someone over for a meal or a show?
Our first family E3 (Educate, Empower, and Engage) meeting is on October 17th starting at 5:15 pm. We plan to have childcare and dinner for those families that plan to attend. At this meeting we will be discussing quite a bit of information in relation to our school goals, funding, and how families can help support the health and wellness of all our students and the community. We hope you will join us on this date so that we can partner together to help our students with their academic achievement, attendance, campus funding, and a deeper focus on the overall health of everyone. Please click below to RSVP so we can plan accordingly. The family E3 meeting will be once a month, and is a great way for families to get involved in the educational process at Todd.
Lastly, we wanted to give a huge shout out to our custodians for all the hard work they do to keep our campus clean and ready for learning. Mr. York and Mr. Jared are two awesome role models who go above and beyond and we thank them for their service.
There are some great resources and ways to help support our community below under the student services section, so please check those out. Let's get ready for another week of getting #WildAboutLearning
It is not too late to order your Todd spirit gear. I just got my grey hoodie as the weather is beginning to get cooler. You can click the purple button below for the school store, and place your orders. This way you can show your school support by sporting our Timberwolf swag.
Let's continue to get #WildAboutLearning

Early Childhood
- The early childhood classroom started a new routine this week. We began our twice a week motor group taking place on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Students sat in a circle and passed around a variety of balls, practicing describing them with words like "squishy" "bumpy" "big" and "small." While many of us continue to develop our ability to attend to group learning activities and wait our turn, students did a very nice job with this. We also read, sang, and talked about feelings and coping skills. Check out Class Dojo to watch a video for our new favorite song, "That's a Boundary."
4K
- As we continue our theme of “My Family and Friends”, this week we will learn about family members beyond mom, dad, sisters, and brothers. We will be talking about grandmothers, grandfathers, aunts, uncles, and cousins. We will explore ways relatives enjoy spending time together. Please see the dojo/email from your child's teacher for the weekly virtual storybook and our Family Connections page!
- We are practicing social emotional skills though our class community and play. Just ask us how we can respect people and things! In math, we are counting a group to answer how many. In literacy, we are retelling a story using key details. We have been practicing retelling stories with Mo Willem's, The Pigeon series.
1st Grade
- In literacy we learned about Wisconsin and drew a map of Wisconsin. We also learned about the architect Frank Lloyd Wright and drew buildings that we would like to build. In math we worked on adding, as well as the commutative property where we can switch the numbers around, in an addition sentence and it is still the same. In social studies we drew and wrote about things we could change at school and in our community to make them better places for all the citizens. In social emotional learning, we learned about responsibility. Don't forget next week Tuesday is picture day!
2nd Grade
- This week in math, second grade represented and compared classmates height and used a number line to help add and subtract efficiently. We learned about the strategies of finding the closest benchmark and counting back or forward. During ARC, we wrote our own poems which included; rhythm, rhyming and shapes. In social studies, we were able to identify laws and rules, who makes the laws and the types of government. This week we started our character trait of Responsibility. This upcoming week is picture day and our field trip to watch the homecoming parade!
3rd Grade
- Grade 3 students are off to a great start in October with working on a routine and responsibility, which is our SEB character trait of the month. We are becoming strong readers and writers and using figurative language to enhance our writing. In math, we are in the middle of module one and learning about the commutative property of multiplication. We are switching to science and will begin our forces and motion unit . Please continue to have your child read at home and look for their family math packets .
4th Grade
- Fourth graders were very excited to start our first science unit this week, Earth's Features. We are becoming geologists and learning all about rocks and fossils. This week we tackled the difference between observations and inferences that scientists make and how we also do that in reading. During math we work hard to master our estimation skills with large numbers and apply them to real life scenarios. In ELA we finished our first class read aloud, and what an exciting ending Alvin Ho had! Please make sure that your student has returned their permission slips for all of our our upcoming field trips.
5th graders
- This week in ELA we finished our first two read aloud books, "My Teacher is an Alien" and "Amazing Aliens". In "Amazing Aliens" students were challenged to think about the possibility of living beings on other planets, as well as considering how humans could be considered aliens when we landed on the Moon and possibly Mars someday. We got to start science this week. We will be taking on the role of food scientists investigating the question "What happens when two substances are mixed together"? We are working hard on our Hispanic Heritage project for our assembly and gallery walk on 10/15/24. Students are trying to show proper Todd Timber-wolf expectations. One expectation we are going to focus on being successful at next week is following instructions, especially when we need to quiet our voices and participate in independent quiet work time.
