From Superintendent Dr. N. Shalene French
June 16, 2025
MESSAGE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT
Prepare Your Student for What's Next
Dear Caldwell Families,
The Idaho Department of Education supports a website called Parents' Corner. It provides resources and information for parents of children from preschool through college. On this website is information about College and Career with links to learn more about Advanced Opportunities, financial planning for post-secondary education, and links to scholarship opportunities.
All Idaho students, starting in 7th grade, have a $4,625 "scholarship" to pay for college courses, certification exams, college placement tests, workforce training, and additional courses (i.e. CHS Advanced Opportunity Summer School).
It is possible for students to earn their Associate's Degree while attending high school.
We encourage you to learn more about Advanced Opportunity and dual credit college courses. We also invite you to visit with your middle school or high school counselor about the Advanced Opportunities for your child.
SYRINGA SCHOLARS GO TO FLORIDA
Eighth grade students at Syringa Middle School recently returned from Tampa, Florida for the Habitat H2O Science Fieldwork Experience. This is the 8th year in a row students have been able to explore science in the Sunshine State.
Over 30 students and parents joined Dr. Melyssa Ferro and Mr. Mitch Dame for a week packed with science, sunshine, and unforgettable adventures. Students had the opportunity to learn how to kayak, snorkel, feed giraffes, and study with University of South Florida scientists.
"It truly was the trip of a lifetime, packed with hands-on learning, wild encounters, and memories to last forever," said Dr. Ferro.
Students and staff are exhausted but inspired, and their brains are full of science. Thank you to all the families who supported this amazing journey and to the awesome science team for making this experience possible year after year!
