This is a reminder that term 1 progress reports will be available on Tuesday, October 3rd. Please stay on top of your academic work and reach out to your teachers, guidance counselors, or any administrator if you need assistance. We have Saturday School from 9:00 AM-12:00 PM on select Saturdays. Teachers are also available after school for extra help. Please take advantage of these opportunities to make up work and receive the help you need. We are here to help you!

As we prepare for the second half of term 1, I am a believer in the following strategies to position our students for success:

From September 15th through October 15th is Hispanic Heritage Month. Hispanic Heritage Month is a great opportunity for the RHS community to celebrate the achievements and contributions of Hispanic Americans who have achieved great success and who have motivated others to make significant contributions to society. On Thursday, September 28th, RHS had its first Dog Block. Dog Blocks are held Two Thursdays per month. The purpose of Dog Block is to provide a structure within the school day for all students to foster positive relationships with peers and staff through organized and engaging community-building activities. Dog Block is also a time for school-wide programs such as class assemblies, mentor/mentee meetings, and recognition ceremonies to limit disruptions outside this time.

Some featured events included:

Basketball, Weightlifting, Blue Dog Cafe, Running, Community Service opportunity to read to elementary-aged children at Phelps Elementary School, Introductory Portuguese, Life Hacks (learned how to change a tire), Open Music, Disney Club, Open Woodshop, Open Robotics, History of Rockland, Board Games, WRPS TV Radio, Open Art, Key Club, SGC Brainstorming Events and Fundraisers, Friendship Bracelets & Coloring, Environment Club, Key Club, Community Outreach, Senior Assembly on College Planning, Senior Assembly on Alternatives to Colleges.

New travel opportunity! Interested in going to Costa Rica over April vacation this year? Come to an information meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 4 at 7:30 p.m. in the Lecture Hall to hear all about it! Email kwalsh@rocklandschools.org if you have questions or can't make the meeting.

The Homecoming Dance is scheduled for Saturday, October 7th from 7-9:30 PM in the RHS Gym. The event is coordinated by the Student Government Council. Tickets cost $15 and can be purchased at lunch next week. The ticket includes admission to dance; there is no food at the Homecoming Dance so students should eat in advance. Tickets are NOT sold at the door.

On Friday, September 22nd, RHS held the Rockland Walks for Inclusion, partnering with the Special Olympics. The event was a huge success; community members walked around Veterans Memorial Stadium, enjoyed a bouncy house, music, face paint, and overall, had a great time celebrating inclusion!

Boys soccer and football remain undefeated and the volleyball team continued their winning ways, picking up a huge victory over Carver this week. Congratulations to senior Maggie Elie on picking up her 1,000 career volleyball assist, a huge milestone. We are proud of you, Maggie!
