Dear Friends

2022 WASA award recipients
The Washington Association of School Administrators (WASA) – Sno-Isle Region 109 recently recognized these local groups for their unique contributions to the Snohomish School District. Citizens for Snohomish Schools received the 2022 WASA Community Leadership Award, and the Snohomish School District nursing team was the recipient of the 2022 WASA Staff/Student Leadership Award. We are thankful for their contributions to our district and community!
Community Leadership Award
More than three decades ago, Citizens for Snohomish Schools was formed by a group of concerned Snohomish parents and community members. Throughout the years, the work of this all-volunteer group has continued to center around their manta - strong schools mean strong communities. Working together, they have been consistent with helping the Snohomish School District in its support of passing school levies and construction bonds. The Snohomish School District had two critical funding measures on the February 2022 ballot. Both were approved by local voters ... in large part because of the work of the citizens group. Under the direction of outgoing president Jeff Judy and current president Sonya Siegel Vexler the team of community volunteers spent hundreds of hours fundraising and organizing campaign and get-out-the-vote messaging, events and activities to help ensure the measures would pass. Whether it be doorbelling, writing letters to the editor, educating our community about the difference between levies and bonds, putting up yard signs, creating social media campaigns, or attending dozens of community meetings, Citizens for Snohomish Schools volunteers have been relentless advocates for all Snohomish School District students. Thank you, Citizens for Snohomish Schools!
Staff/Student Leadership Award
The Snohomish School District is pleased to honor our district nursing team with this year’s WASA student/staff leadership award. Using their dedicated professionalism, tireless effort and support, our 15 nurses enabled our schools to continue to educate the students of Snohomish as we navigated the challenging time of the COVID-19 pandemic. Our nurses faced an ever-changing period of time in healthcare in which they were given unprecedented responsibly. This expanded role meant their job was often a balancing act in which they provided reassurance to anxious families, students and staff, while at the same time navigating uncomfortable, and at times hostile, situations with families. I think that they would all say that their skin is a bit thicker as a result. It was often exhausting and frustrating as they navigated changing COVID-19 guidelines, contact tracing and testing, providing data to the departments of health, while also doing the important job of school nursing. Yet each day they returned to the pressures that awaited them and met the challenges they faced using their nursing skills and training to provide a safe place for our students to learn during a pandemic. We mean it when we say we could not have done it without you. Thank you, Snohomish School District nurses!

Make sure your child's immunizations are up to date!
It is important to make sure your child goes to their regularly scheduled wellness appointments, which often include immunizations. The summer months are a great time to get your child caught up with immunization requirements before the 2022-2023 school year. Schedule your appointments early, as health care providers’ schedules quickly fill up in August and September. Make sure to turn in your updated immunization paperwork to the school by Wednesday, September 7.
Every student enrolled/registered in school or childcare in the state of Washington must have medically verified up-to-date immunization records on file with the school in which they are enrolled/registering before the first day of school 2022-2023. Medically verified immunization records include one or more of the following:
- A Certificate of Immunization Status (CIS) printed from the Immunization Information System (IIS)
- A physical copy of the CIS form with a healthcare provider signature
- A physical copy of the CIS form with accompanying medical immunization records from a healthcare provider verified and signed by school staff
- A CIS printed from MyIR

Thank you Snohomish Masonic Fraternity, Centennial Masonic Lodge #25!
Join us in a huge message of thanks to the Snohomish Masonic Fraternity, Centennial Masonic Lodge #25, who have donated two bikes to each of our district elementary schools as part of their Bikes for Books program. The Masonic Lodge’s Bikes for Books program is aimed at encouraging kids in grades K-6 to read more books. They believe reading skills are closely related to educational success, and by providing an incentive (a chance to win a bike), students will read more. By awarding bicycles, they also hope to encourage physical exercise.
Each year the Masonic Lodge provides two new bikes per elementary school (24” mountain bikes). They do not administer the competition or have any stipulations or motives. They simply suggest ways others have judged entries or made competitions and allow each school to have authority to who wins and how.
Throughout the year, the local Snohomish Masonic Lodge raises money for educational and benevolent uses such as this. In addition, they work with the local Fred Meyer stores to acquire new children’s bicycles at a low cost.
Thank you, Snohomish Masonic Fraternity, Centennial Masonic Lodge #25! We appreciate you and your support of students!
Thank you Kusler's!
Food service account balances
Any balances remaining your student’s food service account from the previous school year will move forward to the new school year. If your child is graduating, funds are automatically transferred to a younger sibling's account. If your child is graduating and there are no younger siblings, or if your child is no longer a district student, a refund of any remaining account balance can be requested by contacting Food Service at kim.horton@sno.wednet.edu or 360-563-7357. Please include your child's name, school, student ID number and address.
SEF awards $92,601 to district classrooms
The Snohomish Education Foundation (SEF) recently awarded 148 classroom grants to district teachers and staff totaling $92,601. This year, SEF was able to fund 100% of the applications received.
The 2022 SEF classroom grants will improve student learning in literacy, science, technology, special education, and math. Since the program began in 1996, the Snohomish Education Foundation has funded more than $1 million to 1,730 teachers and staff in the Snohomish School District.
“Through the tremendous generosity of our donors and the great support of our community, the Snohomish Education Foundation was able to award a generous amount this year in classroom grants," said Steve Thomas, Chairman of the SEF Classroom Grant Committee. "The foundation and our classroom grant program are proud to support more students in the Snohomish community than any other organization. We thank everyone who has contributed to the great success of the program."

FAQs
If I am approved for ACP and currently on an internet service plan with a provider, can I switch to a different internet service plan of that provider, including to that provider’s low-cost plan, and receive the ACP benefit?- Yes. The ACP benefit can be applied to any internet service offering, and providers cannot restrict you from switching service offerings or subject you to mandatory waiting periods. Sometimes providers prohibit existing customers from switching to low-cost internet service plans; however, consumers receiving the ACP benefit are not subject to these “existing customer” restrictions.
- ACP rules override the rules of participating providers in the context of an ACP consumer. For instance, a provider may generally require that consumers pay off past or present debts before signing up for XYZ internet service plan. However, consumers who are approved to receive ACP benefits are not subject to that requirement (since the ACP rules prohibit providers from declining to enroll ACP consumers based on past or present debts).
Note: The ACP rules clearly allow ACP consumers to apply their benefit to any internet service offering that is generally available (i.e. not a grandfathered/legacy plan) and prohibit mandatory waiting periods (47 CFR 54.1808(e)(6)(iii)) and restrictions on switching plans (Para. 166 of the Report and Order).

- Facebook - Today, 10,000 Facebook fans receive regular district updates through our district's Facebook page - www.facebook.com/snohomishschooldistrict. This site is just one of many ways we communicate with our students, staff, families and community. Although we are aware of other Facebook pages, please note that this is the only verified Facebook page of the Snohomish School District and is where official information is posted.
- School Messenger - Our district uses the School Messenger automated system as a tool for communication with our parents, families and staff. School Messenger works with the district’s student-data system (Skyward/Family Access) to notify families and staff through phone and/or email of emergencies, critical school and district messages, school/district closures, inclement weather, attendance issues, underfunded student meal accounts and other events/activities. The overall goal of using this service is for parents and families to receive critical information about Snohomish schools - especially information that affects their children - in a timely manner. As long as we have accurate primary phone numbers and email addresses on record for our students in Skyward/Family Access, families should automatically receive these messages when they are sent out.
