After a long winter, Spring is close… I am reflecting on this entire school year with the COVID-19 Pandemic and realize that it’s been one full year since COVID hit us hard in Alberta. It has been interesting, to say the least. Once again, we are optimistic that the end is near with vaccinations, physical distancing, and appropriate PPE (personal protective equipment).
We are genuinely optimistic and hopeful that we will be able to begin the 2021-22 school year according to the “old normal” with multiple teachers, athletics, student clubs, and all the other extra-curricular activities that everyone is missing now. Unfortunately, extra-curricular activities are still banned according to Alberta Health and the Provincial Government.
Gish staff hosted a well-attended Kindergarten Open House on February 18. Our teachers did an absolutely fantastic job and we are very proud of them. Please visit the Gish website to see the videos. We still have room in our excellent Global (English Regular) Program in both half-day and full-day programming. Cogito Kindergarten is now full.
Parent-Teacher Interviews just concluded on March 23 and 24. We heard many positive comments about how convenient our “virtual interviews” were. Thanks to so many parents/guardians for attending. We may continue to host on-line Parent-Teacher Interviews in the future because many parents have commented on the positives about not having to arrange child care, drive to and from school, park, wait in hallways, etc.
Enjoy synergizing with family and friends during Spring Break from March 26 to April 5 inclusive. Please remember that Wednesday, April 7 is Staff Meeting Day. Grade 1-9 students will be dismissed at 12:04pm, and Kindergarten students do not attend.
After Spring Break, we’ll look forward to lots of productive learning. Be sure to complete the “Request to Change Educational Platforms” for your child(ren) if you want them to switch from on-line to in-class learning. That form is due on April 12. Quarter 3 ends on April 16 and Quarter 4 starts on April 20.
Stakeholder Surveys will be starting in April. PLEASE complete the Stakeholder Surveys by providing individual feedback from the perspective of each child attending St. Albert Public Schools. More information will be provided in April.
