First Day of Classes
The first day of classes for the 2024-25 school year will be Wednesday, August 14. School hours are from 7:55 AM – 3:10 PM. Students may begin to arrive 7:30 a.m. We will be dismissing early the first two weeks of school at 3:00.
In an effort to minimize the crowds in our school during this exciting time, we ask that if you plan to walk your child to class on the first day, that you take pictures outside of the school and then escort your child to class. We will have staff members available to assist students to their classrooms if you wish to say your goodbyes outside.
Students who bike or walk to school will enter the building at the front side doors of the school. During arrival and dismissal, the crosswalk at the front entrance will not be available for use due to car arrivals and departures. Parents who pick up students at the West gate are encouraged to walk or bike from West Panther Creek. Parents who pick up on the East gate are encouraged to walk or bike through Ridgewood Park. You must have your green transportation sign to pick up your students. PK-2nd grade students must have a parent present to pick up students. 3rd and 4th grade students will be able to leave campus on their own. If you wish for your 3rd or 4th grade student to have a parent required for pick up, please email your child’s teacher.
Staff members will be on duty until 7:55 to help in the car rider line at the front of the school and on the front porch to assist students arriving. After 7:55, parents must park and walk your child to the door and staff member check your child in. Students that at are not in the building by 7:55 will be counted tardy for the day. Students will not be counted tardy the first week of school.
Arrival/Dismissal 101
Dismissal begins at 3:00 on 8/14-8/23 3:10 on 8/26
- Cell phone use is prohibited in all school zones based on state law (House Bill 347).
- Please pull your car up close to the numbered sign, so all 10 cars fit in the driveway.
- Students must buckle & unbuckle on their own.
- Staff may only load students into the back seat of their vehicle.
- If a staff member isn’t available at arrival, then your child may exit the vehicle independently.
- Change of dismissal should be communicated to the front office no later than 2:00pm.
- For everyone’s safety, students will remain in the car rider student line throughout dismissal. We cannot change a form of transportation during dismissal. Parents who approach the car line on foot will be asked to return to their car and be redirected to the end of the car rider line.
- Please, no early check outs after 2:00.
- Please have your dismissal sign visible as you enter the line. This helps expedite the car rider line.
- If you forget your sign, present your ID for verification with the front office.
- If you need a new pick up sign, please see the link in the weekly newsletter to request one.
- Our main goal is to get everyone to and from school safely and efficiently.
- Please help us by honoring the guidelines above. We appreciate your support to keep everyone safe!
East Walker
K - 2 Parents: K-2 students will be released when a parent is present with a green dismissal sign . Parents, please form a line along the basketball court holding your sign. The duty teacher will stand on the basketball court and call names in the order parents arrive. Students will then be released from dismissal rooms to meet parents. If parents would like a K-2 sibling to be released with a 3rd or 4th grade sibling, please notify the classroom teachers to approve a "Fast Pass" dismissal.
Grade 3-4 Parents: Unless a parent notifies the school of another preference, 3rd and 4th grade students will be dismissed without a parent present at 3:10. (Students will be released early on Aug. 14th - 23rd @ 3:00 pm.)
To ensure your child's safety, please talk with your child about where to look for you in the park and reassure them that if they don't see you, they should return to the teacher on duty.
Thank you for your help to ensure dismissal is safe and efficient!
West Walkers
- PK and K parents line up to the right of the gate and hold up their sign.
- 1st - 4th grade parents will line up to the left of the gate and hold up their sign.
- If a parent is missing a sign, they will be directed to the front office to get a new one and will need to be cleared for pickup.
- PK students are not allowed to be walkers unless they are zoned as a Ride PK student. All others will need to be car riders or bus riders.
PK and K students line up inside of the gate but cannot be dismissed until the 3:10 bell rings and a parent is there to pick them up. Students in Grades 1 - 4 are lined up inside the school and will be dismissed at the 3:10 bell once a parent is there to pick them up.
Transportation change notepads will be sent home with each student at Meet and Greet or on the first day of school. Please use these forms any time a student needs to go home in a different way from the permanent designated mode of transportation.
All transportation changes must be received by 2:00 p.m. Please send all changes of transportation to ridetransportation@conroeisd.net. The e-mail must include the date, your child’s full name, homeroom teacher, bus number (if applicable), and the guardian's full name. All emails must be received before 2:00 p.m. If you submit a transportation change by email, it must go to the email address referenced above; transportation changes should not be emailed directly to the teacher. If an emergency arises, please contact 281-465-2800.
Please send a new email for each day the change occurs. We cannot accept notes for multiple days or with multiple changes. District policy states that a student may only ride the bus they are registered to ride; therefore, students may not have a transportation change to ride a different bus.
A Message from our School Nurse
Dear Ride Parents/Guardians,
Here are a few reminders from the clinic so that we can have a successful start to the 2024-2025 school year. We are excited to see our smiling Challenger faces fill our campus again!
All students must be up to date on vaccines in order to start school. If your child has a vaccine or new Conscientious Objector affidavit that is due before August 14th, a letter and email was sent home at the end of last school year. Feel free to email any updated vaccine records to kschill@conroeisd.net, and original, notarized Conscientious Objector affidavits can be turned in to the front office.
Please be sure to complete your annual online enrollment ASAP, ensuring phone numbers are correct, as well as any current allergies or medical conditions that your child may have. A link to complete that information was emailed to you from the district in mid-July. Using the information that you provide, medical conditions are manually updated each August in our clinic software and shared with teachers, along with any new emergency plans that you provide to the clinic.
If you have ever informed the district that your child is allergic to any foods, even if it is not showing as active in my software, the Child Nutrition department keeps it active in your child’s profile until a parent contacts them and requests the allergy be removed. At this time, if any food allergies have changed, please email kschill@conroeisd.net and I will update the cafeteria manager accordingly.
If your child has a chronic condition such as asthma, severe allergies, diabetes, migraines, or seizures, we ask for new doctor's orders EACH school year before we can check in your child's medication. It's very scary to be left with no option but to call 911 if there is an emergency at school; we are not allowed to provide any medication or emergency treatment without a parent permission form and strongly encourage a doctor’s order for these medications.
Emergency forms are available by going to the clinic website: https://www.conroeisd.net/department/health-services/important-forms/ and a copy of CISD current medication guidelines can be found at the link provided. Please know that we do not have any medications at school to give students unless they are provided by a parent. Please note that students are NOT allowed to transport any medication to or from school (this includes cough drops and inhalers). A parent or legal guardian must check in the medication directly with a clinic staff member.
For Medication check-in, please email the school nurse at kschill@conroeisd.net to schedule an appointment to check in the medication and necessary forms
If you have any additional questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at kschill@conroeisd.net. I look forward to assisting you, and your student!
