DCTS News & Highlights
9th Grade applications
The application team has kicked off the 9th-grade acceptance process for the 2025-2026 school year! We recently held our annual school counselor meeting to share details about the application process, how students are selected, and what DCTS and our CTE programs have to offer. This collaboration shows our commitment to transparency and building strong partnerships with counselors to support student success.
We’re thrilled to announce that we’ll be accepting up to 336 9th graders for the upcoming school year and can’t wait to welcome the next generation of students to DCTS!
District 5 SkillsUSA Competition
DCTS proudly hosted the thrilling District 5 SkillsUSA competitions on Tuesday, January 14th, where nearly 400 talented competitors from schools across District 5 went head-to-head in an incredible 68 contests across all our programs – and the excitement continues as the winners will be revealed tomorrow in the auditorium!
FBLA: Spokes of Kindness:
6 FBLA members volunteered at Recycle Bicycle Harrisburg, a nonprofit that provides refurbished bikes to the community. They spent the day restoring children's bikes, learning repair skills like adjusting handlebars and replacing brakes, and successfully refurbished eight bikes!
This hands-on experience boosted their technical skills and deepened their commitment to community service. We’re proud of their impact and can’t wait to see them continue making a difference!
DCTS is excited to host our first Community Career Expo on Thursday, February 6th, from 3:30 to 5:30 PM. This event will feature 55 potential employers eager to showcase their companies' offerings.
During the school day, DCTS students will have the exclusive opportunity to connect with these employers and explore potential career pathways. Following this, the event will open to families and the community, providing a chance to network and learn more about the exciting opportunities available in various industries.
The DCTS Education Foundation is an incredible organization supporting our students through scholarships and unique opportunities to enhance their educational experience.
The Foundation actively seeks new members to join its mission of making a difference. Recently, we’ve welcomed two student members, a junior and a senior—who bring valuable perspectives and energy to the team.
We’re always looking for alumni and community members to join the Foundation and contribute to the success of future Wolverines. Together, we can continue to provide life-changing opportunities for our students and build a stronger community.

School Community – Culture
At DCTS, exciting changes are underway thanks to several active committees:
- 9th Grade Rotation Committee: Optimizing the rotation to help students explore different programs and make informed career choices.
- Schedule Steering Committee: Improving the scheduling process to better meet the needs of students and staff.
- Wolverine Initiative Committee (coming soon!): Fostering school pride and culture based on our core values.
These committees are key to driving continuous improvement and enhancing the DCTS experience!
FLEXIBLE INSTRUCTION DAY (FID) INFORMATION AND SCHOOL CLOSURES
Dauphin County Technical School will be taking advantage of our Flexible Instructional Day, (FID), program as outlined by the Pennsylvania Department of Education for inclement weather days. Please note that the district can only use up to five FIDs for the 2024-2025 school year.
Also, please note that not every inclement weather day may be used as a FID. In other words, we may still cancel school days during inclement weather, and we would need to make those days up on the school calendar.
Student participation is required for a successful inclement weather FID. By continuing education during these weather emergencies, it will allow us to preserve our vacation days as scheduled while keeping instruction moving forward.
Teachers will be conducting the day using an abbreviated schedule that will be shared by your building principal. Additionally, teachers and support staff will be available throughout the school day for assistance. Please reach out to your teachers and counselors with any questions you may have. Families will receive additional instructions from the building principal regarding individual school schedules.
