We are delighted to welcome all of our returning École St. Matthew’s School families back for the 2023-2024 school year, and we extend a special welcome to our new families as well. In preparation for our learners’ return to school next week, we will share some important notes with you below.

Families will receive a welcome message from their child’s teacher on the afternoon of Tuesday, September 5.

School will reopen for ALL students on Wednesday, September 6th. School doors will open at 8:10 am for students in grades 1 through 7, and at 9:30 am for Kindergarten students.

To minimize congestion in hallways, only parents of Kindergarten children will be admitted into the building on the first day of school.

We recognize that starting Kindergarten is a monumental milestone in a child’s schooling. To celebrate this occasion, we will be having a meet and greet in the school gymnasium at 9:30 am on Wednesday, September 6th for all of our Kindergarten students. We kindly ask that parents/guardians enter the building with their child via the main entrance and immediately proceed to the gym.

Our Kiss and Ride lanes will be in place from 8:10-8:35 am. We strongly encourage families to avail of this efficient drop-off procedure.

Parents will be asked to remain outside the building when dropping off and picking up their children. All students will use the main entrance for arrival at school in the morning. All parents/caregivers will be invited into the building for events such as volunteering, attending student progress meetings, and curriculum night.

Dismissal routines: We will have a staggered dismissal starting with our Kindergarten & Grade One/Two students at 2:20 pm. Students will be dismissed from the front of our building (by the main doors) and the right side of our building (near the garden). Any families requiring school administration of prescribed medications to their child must consult the Parent Responsibilities re: School Administration of Medication section of our school website.

No medications can be administered until all policy requirements have been fulfilled.

As noted above, our School Lunch Program will commence on September 27th. As well, our Matt's Morning Munch breakfast program will take some time to get up and running; we will communicate our opening day for this service soon. For the time being, we ask all students to come with a packed recess and lunch, as well as a refillable water bottle.

At St. Matthew's, we have students with life-threatening allergies to nuts, latex and bananas. Please refrain from sending bananas, or any food items that contain nuts or nut products (this includes nut butter substitutes, as it is difficult for staff to differentiate between those products). We appreciate your attention to this important matter.

There will be a number of forms sent home with your child during the first week of school. We kindly ask that you send these back to your child’s teacher as soon as possible.
