COMMUNITY UPDATE
Hello North Rockland Families,
As we approach the Thanksgiving holiday, I want to take a moment to express my deep gratitude for the privilege of leading such an exceptional school community. The North Rockland Central School District is a place where dedication, compassion and excellence thrive—thanks to our outstanding staff, supportive families and incredible students. I am constantly inspired by their remarkable achievements, resilience and character.
This season, I have had the honor of witnessing our students excel in so many ways—whether it’s celebrating championship victories, recognizing outstanding volunteer efforts, applauding academic excellence, or honoring remarkable achievements and distinctions. These accomplishments are a direct reflection of the hard work, passion and determination of our students, as well as the unwavering support of the community that stands behind them.
As we gather to celebrate Thanksgiving, it’s an ideal time to reflect on the values that define us: gratitude, kindness and the importance of giving back. While the holiday season is a time of joy for many, it can also be difficult for those facing challenges—whether personal, financial or emotional. This can sometimes lead to frustration or negative behaviors, not just among our young people but across society.
This year, we've seen a rise in negativity and sensationalism in the media, where conflict and division often take center stage. Social media, in particular, can amplify these challenges, making it harder to engage in constructive, respectful conversations. Such negativity may stem from unhappiness or unresolved challenges, and these struggles often cloud our ability to connect in meaningful ways. However, these challenges are an important reminder of the opportunity we have to teach our children the value of kindness, empathy and rising above negativity. In a world where division can seem overwhelming, we can guide our children to focus on what unites us, showing them that strength comes from understanding, compassion and the resilience to stay positive in the face of adversity.
As Red Raiders, we have the power to set a different example. Our strength lies in our unity—regardless of team loyalties, political views, religious beliefs or cultural backgrounds. We are one Red Raider family and we are stronger when we celebrate our differences, support each other and lift one another up.
This Thanksgiving, let us lead by example. Let us show our children what it means to be compassionate, inclusive and respectful and help them understand that it is through these values that we build a stronger, more connected community.
On behalf of the entire District, I wish you and your loved ones a safe, joyful and meaningful Thanksgiving.
