SHS Staff Celebrates Free College Application Period
Members of the SHS staff donned their college gear to stir up some old rivalries...and bring awareness to the closing of the Free College Application Period that began October 1 and ends November 30. Students may apply to South Dakota’s public technical colleges and universities free of charge for two months each fall. Those interested should see Ms. Filipek for more details.
Picture Retake Day is Tuesday, November 19!
FFA Students Advance to State!
On Monday, Sisseton FFA members traveled to Doland to compete in the District 1 Leadership Development Events of Creed Speaking, Employment Skills, Ag Sales, Ag Communications, and Marketing Plan.
The Ag Communications team of Jackson Wegener, Elle Metz, Brooklyn Myrum, and Justin Muehler took home first place.
Sidney Johnson, Taylor Snaza, Beth Meyer, and Kate Meyer received second place in Ag Sales.
The third place Marketing Plan members include Cody Nelson, Aykre Piotter, and Rylan Anderson.
Sidney Johnson and Kate Meyer are retiring District 1 FFA Officers, and Beth Meyer is the newly elected District 1 Treasurer.
Dual Credit Enrollment Open
Dual Credit Registration is open for all eligible juniors and seniors. Please see Mrs. Filipek for more information.
Dual credits are classes that earn students both high and college credits at the same time. The courses cost $50.84 per credit hour or around $152 for a three-credit course and that is paid for by the student. These classes are taken online during the student's school day and are a great way for motivated college/technical school-bound students to get ahead on some of the general electives they will need. Eligibility requirements can be found at: https://public.powerdms.com/SDRegents/tree/documents/1677947
FCCLA Sponsors Caring Rose Week
Caring Rose Week is a fundraiser that was sponsored by the FCCLA chapter this week. Students sold roses by the dozen for 12 dollars or 10 dollars and two cans. By mid-morning Friday, FCCLA had sold 102 dozen roses. The proceeds from the roses go to the local food pantry to feed people right here in Sisseton.
GET TO KNOW YOUR TEACHER: Taylor Titze
Subjects Taught: Comprehensive Creative Art, Pottery, Drawing and Painting, Crafts
Years Taught: First year!
What is one of your favorite things about teaching?
I love connecting with my students and seeing how creative they can be.
What is your favorite dish from the cafeteria? When I was in high school my favorite school lunch was crispitos. They did them a little differently, but the SHS ones brought me back!
How do you spend your summer breaks? I'm a big family girl so I like to visit family, binge watch series (even if I've already seen some 4 times through...) I'm the Art Teacher so I love practicing my own art! I don't get a lot of time during the school year, so the summer's when I would like to dive deeper into my painting, drawing, and jewelry making.
What is something interesting about yourself? I didn't always want to be a teacher my whole life...in high school I had my head set on working in the medical field.
Homework Help
Stay caught up with your homework and grades by participating in Homework Help every Thursday in the SHS library from 3:20-5:00 pm. Come for a quiet space to work and extra support from teachers.
