This Is How We Lakeview
July 2023 Edition: Volume 4

Latest Updates
We hope our students and their families are enjoy their mini Fall Break! Remember, students are not in school this coming Monday due to our final round of parent-teacher conferences.
As a reminder, this upcoming week is the final week of Quarter 1. The past few weeks have been great opportunities for conferences between families and teachers, and we hope our families have found those beneficial to stay up-to-date with their student's progress, especially as we finish this quarter.
For our students who may have fallen short of their own expectations during Quarter 1, the start of the new quarter is a good time to self-reflect, reset, and set new goals for the rest of the first semester.

New Updates
New Horizons Mental Health Services
This school year, New Horizons Mental Health Services will be providing important suicide awareness and prevention education for students at Lakeview Jr High, as required by Ohio's House Bill 123. This program, called SOS Signs of Suicide, teaches students about mental health, depression, and suicide prevention.
The key lessons include:
Depression is treatable, and it's important to seek help.
How to recognize signs of depression or suicide risk in themselves or others.
The ACT method: Acknowledge, Care, and Tell a trusted adult when concerned.
Students will watch videos, participate in discussions, and complete a screening form to assess whether they might need to seek professional help. If any concerns arise, the school will contact parents. If you would not like for your student to participate in the screening form, please complete the opt out form and return it to your child's school counselor. The opt-out form states a deadline of October 3, 2024; however, because our sessions are at various points throughout the year depending on the team, you can send in the opt-out at any point before the screening.
For more information, feel free to reach out to contact the school counselors Chad_Gill@plsd.us (Students with the last name A-F), Sarah_Geiger@plsd.us (G-M), Ryan_Max@plsd.us (N-Z).
PTO Updates
Next Friday, October 18th, our PTO is sponsoring our first Teen Night of the year for our students. The "Glow in the Dark" Teen Night will be held from 7:00-9:00 pm in the Cafeteria and Gymnasium. Tickets will be on sale again this coming Wednesday, the 16th, during lunch periods. Tickets are $10 each. Only current Lakeview students are permitted to attend.
The annual Pickerington Education Foundation dinner is coming up, scheduled for November 9th this year. Our PTO creates a tree each year for the tree auction, and they are asking for your help! Please use the link below to support our PTO and tree by donating one of the items.
Please see the PayPal link below for a quick way to support our students and staff through the PTO. They are currently raising funds to help support dinners for staff during parent-teacher conferences, an upcoming Teen Night, and other events during the year that recognize student achievement.

New Donation Bin
If any of our families have driven by Lakeview in the past week, you probably noticed a new yellow donation bin by the road. We are partnering with Planet Aid, a non-profit organization that collects used clothing and shoes. All you have to do is stop by the bin, drop in your used items, and you're not only supporting those in need around the world, but you are also supporting our students through this fundraiser.
Athletics
The athletic website for both PHSN & LJH is now live. Use the https://pickeringtonpanthers.org/ to watch for announcements! All coaches will be using this website for updates and announcements, so please check here if you have any questions. Chanden Simmons participated in the United States Hockey League’s (USHL) Development Combine in Green Bay Wisconsin this summer. The combine was by invite only. Players who are invited to participate have been pre-screened and scouted by USHL Central Scouting Staff. The combine consisted of 5 games in front of USHL coaches and scouts, as well as NCAA coaches. Participants also participated in off-ice physical and cognitive testing. Way to go, Chanden!
