A Message from Principal Johnson
As you know, GCPS has given official word that schools will be closed for the remainder of the year. Digital Learning will continue for the rest of the year for students with a four day work week, and Friday's will be allocated as a student support day. We know some of our students are struggling with trying to learn using an online approach. Beginning on April 20th, our teachers will begin to start having more face-to-face lessons with students to provide support in all subject areas.

PROGRESS REPORTS will be sent home this Friday. If your child has an NTI, the teachers will work with him/her to get the work turned in for a grade. There are still a lot of students not logging in on a daily basis to complete the work. Make sure your child is completing the work for connection classes as well. If you don't have access to the Internet, please continue to stop by for student work packets. We ask that you return all work packets to the school so our teachers can grade them.
Please continue reaching out to the school if you need assistance. The office hours are 8:00 - 3:30 each day.
Stay Safe, Stay Healthy, and Stay Protected!!

Here is a copy of the latest information sent out on April 9th from GCPS. The letter provides some great information on various topics.
Resources for Parents from the Parent Center
A Message from Dr. Harris
While our children are staying at home, it is important that they don't forget to read something for pleasure as much as possible. Here is a reading strategy I found from the Parent Institute you can use to make reading a family event.
Schedule a “Reading Dinner.” It’s a great way to provide special reading time for your family. Tell your family ahead of time that you will be having a Reading Dinner on the next day. Tell them what your menu will be. The evening of the Reading Dinner, have everyone come to the table with something to read. Don’t forget to turn off the TV. Make this the one time when reading at the table is allowed. You may want to read something aloud for everyone to share. Be sure to talk about what each family member is reading.
An occasional reading dinner works because it’s special. It also gives kids a chance to see that reading is important for the whole family. So parents, if you have social media, take the "Reading Dinner Challenge." Take a picture of your family during the Reading Dinner. Post on your Instagram page or your Twitter page and #SMSPatriotsDine&Read . We would love to see your family reading.
Thinking of you Patriot family,

KSU Summer Computing Camp
Sync will be available April 30th.
Kennesaw State University Computing Camp
The College of Computing and Software Engineering of Kennesaw State University is offering highly interactive summer camps May 26th through July 24th. KSU CCSE faculty and undergraduate students will teach camps letting students explore:
- Drones
- Game and Mobile App Development
- Robotics
- Raspberry Pi Programming (low-cost computing)
We are optimistic that we will offer these face to face, allowing students to connect with their peers and make new friends as they learn, but we also have plans to offer these courses online with real-time video and screen-sharing assistance from our faculty and student assistants so that participants can learn and be guided remotely if the situation requires. Should the need arise to cancel camps due to health concerns surrounding COVID-19, full refunds will be issued so that there is no financial risk to families. In person or online, students will be cared for and taught under KSU faculty guidance. Please visit https://cpe.kennesaw.edu/summer-university/ for more details.
Please feel free to forward this opportunity to any student who could benefit and might be interested.
Thank you,
Dr. Jon A Preston
