Cascadia Tech News
November 2024
From Our Director
As we approach Thanksgiving Break, I want to take a moment to be thankful for the privilege of leading Cascadia Technical Academy. As a student in the 1980s, I appreciate the incredible value of the training our dedicated instructors provide to our current students. Congratulations to our Construction program for selling their 47th student-built home. I encourage readers to check out our other student-operated businesses and see the amazing work our students are doing. More information is available below. Wishing everyone a joyous Thanksgiving!
We are doing great things!

Welcome New Staff
Deb Pratt-Israel, Fiscal Specialist
I have spent most of my life in the Vancouver area. I worked for the City of Vancouver for 24 years before coming to the Evergreen School District to be the Fiscal Specialist for CCTE. I've been married to my husband for 36 years, and we have 3 adorable dogs. I enjoy spending time with family and friends. I love learning new things and I am looking forward to supporting the staff and students here at Cascadia Tech.

What is the Process for Emergency School Closures?
Cascadia Technical Academy follows the Evergreen School District’s operating schedule. When Evergreen School District
is closed, Cascadia Tech Academy is also closed. When Evergreen School District has a 2-hour late start, then there are no session 1 classes at Cascadia Tech Academy, but session 2 is held at regular time.
If a student’s high school is closed because of inclement weather, the student WILL NOT be expected to attend Cascadia Tech Academy that day. If a student’s high school has a 2-hour late start, session 1 students are not expected to attend Cascadia Tech Academy, but session 2 students are expected to attend at regular time.
School closure or schedule change information will be given to the local TV and radio stations by 6 a.m. To get information on closure status, tune in to your local TV/Radio stations via internet/broadcast or check the Evergreen School District website at www.evergreenps.org.

Teacher Certification
If you have three years (6,000 hours) of occupational experience in a specific area and are interested in teaching, consider pursuing a Career and Technical Educator (CTE) certificate.
Cascadia Technical Academy is an approved provider by the Washington State Professional Educator Standards Board for the Plan 2 Business and Industry route CTE teacher preparation program. This competency-based training is designed to prepare you for a CTE teaching career at the secondary level (grades 7-12). It serves as a pathway to obtain an initial CTE Teaching Certificate from the Office of the Washington State Superintendent of Public Instruction. To qualify for the CTE Teaching Certificate, you must meet the OSPI Business and Industry (Specialty Program Areas) requirements.
For more information contact Suzy Jajewski-Koehler, CTE Plan 2 Program Coordinator, at Susan.JajewskiKoehler@evergreenps.org or 360.604.1090.

Mini-Grant Winner
Our very own Dr. Anna Hosha, ELL/Bilingual Paraeducator was presented with a mini-grant from the Southwest Washington School Retirees' Association. These grants are for activities or projects to help children learn. Any school employee in a Clark County public school is welcome to submit a request.
Dr. Anna has used the award funds to purchase snacks for students to fill our campus pantry.
Snacks for Students
Students unfortunately arrive at school hungry each day. We do not have vending machines or a cafeteria on campus for students. We have a pantry available that is running low on supplies. If you can, your generous support is needed.

Sophomore Presentations Recap
Select Cascadia Tech staff and students had the opportunity to present to sophomores at 20 high schools in SW Washington. For most students, this is the first time hearing about the opportunities that are offered to them as juniors and seniors.
All Sophomores will be able to sign up to tour Cascadia Tech in January. Remember to turn in your permission field trip forms to your counselor. During the tour, you will be able to visit three programs of your choice.
Please reach out to your high school counselor with any questions.
