Our students are all having the opportunity to dive into new learning as they build background knowledge through our new instructional resource, Amplify CKLA. One of the many reasons why this resource was selected is because it aligns closely to our District mission: Inspire Curiosity, Cultivate Academic Growth, and Nurture Diversity. And BOY are they curious! As students learn about ancient cultures, other civilizations, and life outside of their usual frame of reference, many students are seeing themselves in the texts and topics. As we broaden our horizons, we are also opening up the floor for students to share their unique perspectives -- truly living into the mission!

Students, staff, and visitors will also find a giant calendar in the front foyer with highlights of diverse celebrations and traditions from around the world. As the year progresses, my hope is to make it an interactive display where students can share about their traditions as we connect with an learn from one another.

Reminders from the Nurse's Office:

Every day our students are here with us is a better day -- for their learning, and for our school community! Sniffles, coughs, sore throats, and tummy aches can be at school as long as they do not interfere with a student's ability to learn. However:

• Fever of 100.4 or more -- must be 24 hours fever free (without medication) before returning
• Vomit or Diarrhea -- must be 24 hours _____ free before returning

We know that this fall doctors and hospitals are seeing an increase of respiratory illness in children. In order to prioritize the health and wellbeing of our students, staff, and community, we ask that if your student is sick:

• Let awnurse@avoca37.org know by calling or filling out the absence notification form (BELOW).
• If your student will be home for a third day, please visit the doctor to make sure there isn't something that can be treated before it gets too serious.
• Anytime your student visits the doctor for an illness, please notify the awnurse@avoca37.orgif there is a diagnosis of a communicable disease (ex: strep, flu, pneumonia). We do not send out notifications to our parent community, but it does allow us to keep an eye on any clusters of illness within the school so that we can take measures to notify immune compromised students or staff and enact extra precautions for cleaning.

Featuring expert-led videos, discussion questions, and take-home tips, Screen Sanity Caregiver Community Night will cover today’s most pressing digital health topics. Attendees will will walk away with a vision for:

• Creating screentime boundaries,
• Introducing smartphones,
• Managing screen-related meltdowns, and
• Protecting kids from mature or unsafe content.
