Week of February 3, 2025
Message from Wayland Middle School
Dear Wayland Middle School Caregivers,
For those of you celebrating Lunar New Year, we wish everyone a Happy New Year and hope you enjoyed the time with family and friends.
Last week, our 7th grade teachers coordinated speakers as part of the immigration unit. It was wonderful to see the students highly engaged and making connections to the experiences of others. The speakers brought to life the cultures of the places they came from and shared important stories of their experiences. Students asked excellent questions and students from study halls even opted to join the class to hear from additional speakers. Thank you to Mr. Fernandez-Davila, Mr. Merry and Ms. Naughton for bringing learning to life for our students!
Additionally, 23 students from Orchestra, Chorus, Jazz and Band were accepted into the 2025 MMEA Eastern District Junior Festival! A lot of preparation, practice and persistence was required of all the students and we would like to offer our sincerest Congratulations!
Take Care,
WMS Faculty and Staff

Grades Update....
Please be sure that your HAC account is working properly. If you need assistance, please fill out the form below and we will address your concerns in the order they are received. Calling the office without filling out the form will delay resolving the HAC issue.
Grades will become available February 3, 2025.
While you are checking your HAC account, it is also a great opportunity to be sure that your contact information, especially email, is correct in Eschool. Correct information in Eschool is particularly important for caregivers of 8th grade students as you will receive information directly from the high school using the contact information.
Student Illness and Dismissal
With Cold and Flu season in full swing and the temperatures plummeting, we understand that many students may be absent due to illness. If your child is diagnosed with any illness, please call the school or the nurse line 508-358-3809 for notification and tracking purposes.
Additionally, as a gentle reminder, any student who is not feeling well or is hurt is expected to go to the nurse for evaluation and dismissal. Calling or texting a parent to be picked up is against school cell-phone policy. Please reference the Student Handbook for more information.
Thank you for your understanding, attention and cooperation with this matter.
The 2025 Wayland Project 351 Ambassador is...
Wayland Middle School eighth grader Ryan Blocker has been selected as the Wayland Project 351 ambassador for 2025.
Project 351 is a 15 year old non-profit organization focused on youth leadership and service. Ryan was selected by his teachers for his kindness and civility with peers and positive contributions to the WMS community.
On January 25th, Ryan joined 351 other 8th graders from around the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for a day of service. Congratulations Ryan!

PTO Thanks You!
Thank you to our WMS community for helping us reach our fundraising goal! The PTO is now able to fund more programs, enrichment activities and unique classroom materials for our students.
Your donations in action
Below are just a few new things your students are starting to use in the classrooms, thanks to your generous donations.
We love getting feedback from teachers!
Extra large laminated world map will now hang in the library.
“We appreciate the PTO's support! The map helps students build greater interdisciplinary connections and global understanding as they explore world history, current events, and independent reading books serving as windows and mirrors of their own experiences.”
Four New Keyboards that all students will have the opportunity to use in music class.
“Thank you so very much!!!!
We truly appreciate your support of the general music program at the middle school. Students will get more time to work on their music skills individually instead of waiting until a keyboard is available.”
Flexible floor chairs are being enjoyed by a 6th grade social studies class.
“The students were so excited to use them! These allow them to choose the environment that best suits their learning style and focus
level, increasing engagement and motivation.”
New learning materials and games are being added to the Language Based Learning Program.
“Thank you so much! I can't tell you how much this will help us. Learning to read and write when one has a language based disability is to say the least challenging, but when students are enmeshed in a PLC that has the resources and time to engage them, learning happens.”
Large magnetic grids are being used on the whiteboards in 8th grade math classrooms to encourage student collaboration.
“I wanted to thank the PTO once again for funding our grant request for magnetic coordinate grids. It has enabled us to get all students up to the boards to work in pairs or small groups, which means more students are engaged.”
New books for all English classrooms to keep content fresh and interesting for our students!
New diversity, inclusion and belonging books are being purchased and will be used as a learning tool for students.
“As a district we continue to work on ensuring that all students belong.”
It's not to late to donate.... (See link below)
