Good Afternoon Families,

We had an excellent week at LITH! We celebrated 48 students who completed the D300 Summer Reads program this summer. Our students were dressed to impress for picture day today. Have a great weekend!

Did you know that missing only 2 days of school each month is the equivalant of missing 10% of the school year?! Research has shown that students who miss 10% of school or more are more likely to:

-Have lower GPAs and test scores
-Be at the greatest risk for dropping out of school
-Be less likely to develop the behavioral and social emotional skills necessary for success in school and in life
-Have difficulty establishing and maintaining positive peer relationships

Establishing healthy attendance habits early in the school year will help support students in the long run by increasing test scores, enhancing social emotional skills and positive peer relationships. This is especially important for our K-2 students, where key foundational skills are established as the bedrock of academic success.

Please remember to schedule your incoming kindergarten/or new student for a vision exam with an eye doctor. Vision exam forms are due by October 15th, 2024 and can be sent by fax (847) 532-6914 or email: krystyne.zakosek@d300.org Dental Exams for kindergarten and newly entering student are due by May 15th, 2025.

Thank you to everyone that worked so hard to sell lottery tickets. Without your continued support we would not be able to have a fun successful year. We will announce next week how much we raised and our top sellers.

We are excited to announce that the Pro Kids Show is coming to Lake in the Hills Elementary on Wednesday, October 2nd, 2024. Students will be mesmerized by Tim Hannig in an incredible in-school assembly that teaches them about respect, positivity, courage and other important character traits.

The excitement doesn’t stop there! Later that evening, we are rolling out the red carpet for a family-friendly presentation of the Pro Kids Show. Join us for a spectacular evening filled with music, magic, and a whirlwind of fun for the entire family! This all-new presentation promises to be a completely different adventure from the daytime show, making it a must-see event for the whole family. Don’t miss out!

Many students have been sharing with me that they are in numerous sports, and I would love to hang pictures of them participating on the Leopard Pride Fitness Wall! Are you interested in being a volunteer this year? In order to volunteer, you will need to complete the D300 RAPTOR form, CLICK HERE to access the application. This process needs to be completed each school year. At LITH, we require our volunteers to go through a 10-15 minute volunteer training with our FSL, Lupe Reyes. If you completed the LITH Volunteer Training in the 23-24 school year, you will not need to complete the process again. If you are unsure, please reach out to Lupe Reyes at 847-532-6954 to confirm. If you would like to complete the LITH Volunteer Training, please email Lupe Reyes at guadalupe.reyes@d300.org.

We will begin the first of three sessions this school year of our Erin's Law presentations the week of September 23rd and September 30th. Please see the attached letter for more information on the presentations. The state of Illinois passed House Bill 6193 in January of 2013 that requires schools to implement an age-appropriate body safety, sexual assult/abuse awareness and prevention curriculum for grades pre-K through 12. When the second and third session take place later in the school year, we will notify you.

District 300 is committed to the safety of all staff and students and in compliance with state law we conduct several safety drills throughout the year. These drills include: bus evacuation drill, fire drills, law enforcement drills, and severe weather drills. These drills are conducted to better prepare students and staff in case of an emergency. Please know that our next fire drill is scheduled for the week of September 23rd.

In our Open House presentation, we referenced the LITH Title I Home School Compact. The paper version will be sent home next week with your student. We encourage you to read through it with your student and sign it before returning it to school.

¡Fue una semana excelente en LITH! Celebramos a 48 estudiantes que completaron el programa de lectura de verano del D300. Nuestros estudiantes se vistieron para deslumbrar en una fotografía el día de hoy. ¡Que tengan un maravilloso fin de semana!

¿Sabías que faltar sólo 2 días al mes equivale a faltar el 10% del año escolar? Las investigaciones han demostrado que los estudiantes que faltan a clase un 10% o más tienen más probabilidades de:

Establecer hábitos saludables de asistencia a principios del año escolar ayudará a apoyar a los estudiantes en el largo plazo mediante el aumento de los resultados de las pruebas, el aumento de las habilidades socio-emocionales y las relaciones positivas con los compañeros. Esto es especialmente importante para nuestros estudiantes de K-2 donde las habilidades fundamentales clave se establecen como la base del éxito académico.

¿Estás interesado en ser voluntario este año escolar? Para ser voluntario, tendrá que completar la solicitud en D300 RAPTOR. Este proceso se necesita completar cada año escolar. Comenzaremos la primera de tres sesiones este año escolar de la Ley de Erin la semana del 23 de septiembre y el 30 de septiembre. Por favor consulte la carta adjunta para más información sobre las presentaciones. Por favor, tomen en cuenta que nuestro próximo simulacro de incendio está programado para la semana del 23 de septiembre.

En nuestra presentación durante nuestra Apertura Escolar, nos referimos al LITH Título I Pacto con la Escuela y el Hogar. La versión en papel se enviará a casa la próxima semana con su estudiante. Le animamos a leerlo con su estudiante y firmarlo antes de enviarlo de regreso a la escuela.
