The EPHS CTC Bi-Weekly Update
We Have So Much To Be Grateful For at the EPHS CTC!!!
We are grateful for leadership that values the impact of Career and Technical Education. From the Federal to RI State governments to our own Mayor, City Council, and School Committee here in East Providence, we are consistently provided with the policies and funding necessary to provide high quality, hands on, authentic career education in a diverse array of programs that EP students want and need.
We are grateful for our amazing faculty who work tirelessly day in and day out to stay up to date on the latest trends in their career fields, to craft lessons that are innovative and emphasize employability skills, and to build relationships with students in an effort to best meet their individual learning needs.
Finally, we are grateful to our students who make the commitment to follow their passions to pursue one of our career and technical programs through 4 years of high school. To see them accept the challenge, to enthusiastically tackle unique problems each day in the classroom, lab, or shop. To be there as they volunteer after school, go out for internship, clinical, or other work-based learning experience and witness how skilled and professional they have become. To watch our students thrive and grow, and see them graduate College and Career Ready. That is the reason we do this work, and we are extremely grateful that we get to do it!
Fashion Design is Coming to the CTC!!!
For several years, Mrs. Voccio an Art Department teacher at EPHS has turned her personal passion for fashion into a highly engaging and successful series of electives in her department centered around clothing design. Her classes have been growing in popularity which led to the creation of a Fashion Club which ran our very successful Fashion Show last Spring in the auditorium.
After some hard work with curriculum, organizing an advisory board, researching certification exams, and creating work-based learning experiences in the program, Mrs. Voccio was able to get local approval to operate Fashion Design as a CTC Pathway. This will give her students access to a full 4-year program with sufficient funding to work in a hands-on environment using tools of the fashion trade, with opportunities to hone their skills in a fully functioning student enterprise, and with the ability to graduate as program completers earning industry credentials, and ready to enter the workforce as young designers or move on to postsecondary education in the field.
Students who are currently enrolled in Mrs. Voccio's Art electives will automatically be given the opportunity to take the next level of this new CTC Pathway, and incoming Freshmen, the Class of 2027, will have the chance to apply for acceptance in February with all other CTC Programs.
Culinary students are treated to a Demo in the Kitchen!
Thank you Chef for spending the day with us. Our kids learned a lot, had fun, built confidence, and made a ton of delicious baked goods!
