JV STATE WRESTLING RESULTS
Let's hear it for our JV State Wrestling podium place winners Saturday at Wausau West! This tournament does not separate schools by size, so it was a competition of the best JV wrestlers from all divisions.
-- 2nd: Cole Pautz (144) -- Cole picked up wins over Brayden Delveaux (Kaukauna), Hudson Tompkins (Marshfield), and Kai Castro (Whitnall/Greendale) before dropping the championship match to Joaquin Quinonez (Neenah).
-- 5th: Trigg Riley (106) -- Trigg picked up wins over Adam Frewerd (Pulaski), Brett Bagnowski (Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln), and Hayden Campbell (Mukwonago) in the 5th place match.
POTATO PANTS
"Potato Pants!" by Laurie Keller was the perfect story to read before a fun game of hot potato!
ATHLETE OF THE WEEK NOMINEE
Pointer Eli Lindsey has been nominated for Wissports.net's Athlete of the Week! "Saturday was the Hall of Fame day at Mineral Point and Eli's father, Matt, was an inductee. The Pointers took care of Belleville 68-39 as Lindsey had 13 points and three assists. In doing so, he became a member of the 1,000 point club, joining his older brother Isaac, and older sister Mallory."
Voting is open until Thursday at 2 pm -- users may vote once per day per device. Link: https://www.wissports.net/news_article/show/1329732
LINDSEY RANKED FOR 3 POINT SHOOTING
Kudos to Laci Lindsey who is currently ranked 10th in D4 for three point shooting! The top two players in each division based on shooting percentage (min. 100 attempts) at the start of the postseason will be selected to participate in the contest in March at the Resch Center in Green Bay. Rankings are updated weekly. Link: https://www.wissports.net/news_article/show/1329089
UPSET ALERT
Upset alert! Our #PointerNation Girls Basketball team just took down the #2 State ranked Cuba City Cubans 68-62 in a key SWAL showdown Tuesday! This avenged a loss to the Cubans back on December 6 in MP. The teams are now tied atop the conference with one loss each. The Pointers have been ranked as high as 4th in the State this year, but are currently unranked. This loss snapped Cuba City's 39 game SWAL winning streak. Go Big Blue!
STATE EDUCATION CONVENTION
This past week, #PointerNation was well represented at the 104th Wisconsin State Education Convention in Milwaukee!
This annual event brought together 3,000 education leaders from around the state for inspirational speakers, workshops, and networking around ideas, lessons learned, and best practices. We'd like to thank Aaron Dunn (School Board President), Joni Heisner (School Board Vice President), Christie Johnston (School Board Member), Mitch Wainwright (Superintendent), Angie Klein (Pupil Services Director), and Joelle Doye (Communications Director) for taking time to invest in our district.
A #PointerNation highlight from convention included:
-- Angie Klein was selected to present a session with Sun Prairie and the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction called "Systems for Students Experiencing Homelessness."
Homelessness might not be what you think. It is defined as, "Children who lack a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence."
• Sharing the housing of others due to loss of housing, economic hardship, or similar reason (referred to as doubled-up)
• Living in motels, hotels, trailer parks, camping grounds, due to lack of adequate alternative accommodations
• Living in emergency shelters or transitional housing programs
• Living in a public or private place not designed for ordinary use as a regular sleeping accommodation for humans (cars, parks, bus or train stations, abandoned buildings, substandard housing, etc.).
• Children from migratory families living in the above circumstances
• Unaccompanied youth living in the above circumstances
Currently, about 2% of Mineral Point students are experiencing homelessness.
The district earned a grant to help us focus on our system. A major component of this grant has been additional time for a dedicated staff member to provide additional supports and services to families experiencing homelessness. The addition of hours for this position have been used to increase contact with families of students experiencing homelessness and coordinate services in order to increase family involvement.
We were honored to be selected to share our journey of support for all students!
