Family Engagement Newsletter
October 2024
It's been a AMAZING first quarter. For those of you who don't know me I am the School Community Liaison here at Borton. I am here to encourage and empower our families to learn and grow with their children. When parents are partners with their children in their education, everyone wins! Parenting is one of the most wonderful and yet challenging things you will ever do! We can learn and grow so much from each other, and we are here to partner with you in your child’s education. I am here to encourage parents and the community to be involved in school activities and academics.
Families at one time or another may find themselves in difficult situations in which they are in need of special services or assistance. I am available to offer help with regards to emergency needs such as food, clothing and referrals to social services, community agencies, counseling, mentors, tutors, job assistance, medical or dental access, immunizations, physicals, parenting issues and strategies, nutrition, and health guidance. Our Family Resource Centers may be able to help with immediate needs from our own resources and if not, we will do our best to connect you to community assistance.
One very helpful tip at the start of the school year is to remember to label your child’s lunch box, coat, backpack, and other belongings.
If you are in need of some help or just have questions, please email me devin.encinas@tusd1.org or call (520) 225-1000 or just stop by the office and see me.
I look forward to meeting and working with you! Ms. Devin

Celebration of International Dot Day
What is International Dot Day? Peter H. Reynolds is writer and illustrator of the book The Dot. The story is about Vashti, a young girl who discovers her artistic talent after her art teacher encourages her to make a mark on a piece of paper. Vashti is initially convinced she can't draw, but after her teacher puts her simple dot picture on display, she begins to think about what else she might be able to create.
The book is intended to encourage children to try new things, explore their creativity, and to have confidence in their abilities.
Borton's Dot Day Project was a community effort with all grade levels and Borton staff for them to believe in themselves and find the courage to "Make their Mark". You can see the art project that is displayed in the main hallway going towards Ms. Lupita's library. A BIG Thank You to Ms. Margaret who had the vision for the project. Thank You to Ms. Margaret, Ms. Angie, and Ms. Lupita for wonderful community project! Thank You Ms. Margaret to allowing me to be a part of the HUGE Successful project! Please check out the art project that is located on the wall outside the library in the hallway. Celebrated September 2024.
Family Engagement Team
We are looking for families to join our Family Engagement Team. We meet once every quarter after school. The team helps make decisions and comes up with ideas for family involvement. If interested please reach out for additional information. Future Family Engagement Meetings will be on 12/02/2024, 02/24/2025, & 05/12/2025 at 3:15 in the library. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me at 520-225-1000
I am extremely excited about new events we have for this school year. One of the events will be a Multicultural Night & Loteria Night. They are both in the early stages of planning so please keep an eye out on more information to come!
Lunch Time Reminders & Support
Helpful Reminders to Lunch:
Students have 35 minutes for lunch, including 15 minutes of outdoor playtime and approximately 15 minutes to eat. Kindergarten and First Grade students have an additional 5 minutes, making their total lunchtime 40 minutes.
To ensure your child makes the most of their lunchtime, here are a few helpful tips:
- Practice at Home: Conduct mock lunches at home and time them to help your child get used to eating within the allotted time.
- Teach Independence: Show your child how to open wrappers and containers on their own.
- Prioritize Protein: Encourage your child to eat protein-rich foods first to keep their energy levels stable throughout the day.
- Healthy Eating Habits: Utilize resources from [MyPlate.gov](https://www.myplate.gov/) for lessons and activities that teach children about balanced meals and healthy eating.
Parents can play a crucial role in preparing their children for lunchtime. While adults at Borton are available to help during the school day, parental support at home is invaluable.
Lost & Found
Our Borton Lost & Found is growing. The lost and found is located outside on the wall between the front office and Ms. Jenna's classroom on the blue rack. Please have your student check if they are missing any items. All unclaimed items will be donated the last day of each month to TUSD Duffy Clothing Bank.
