Harvest Party & Parade
Harvest and Halloween activities will be held next Thursday, October 31st. Wearing a costume is optional, but if your child chooses to wear one, they should come to school already dressed. Weather permitting, parents are invited to watch the costume parade beginning around 8:30 on the playground blacktop area (behind the school). If it rains, we will communicate with you that the outside portion of the parade will be canceled. If you do not hear from us, please know that the parade will continue as planned.
For any student that chooses not to dress-up and/or participate in the costume parade, they are invited to visit the library during the parade time. As mentioned above, wearing a costume is completely optional and students do not need to give anyone a reason why they are choosing not to wear one.
For students who do dress-up, the costume may not include weapons or blood, and cannot be too scary, also no masks are permitted at school. If a student wants to change after the parade, they should wear street clothes under their costume so all they would have to do is remove their costume (not needing to go to the restroom to change). Teachers will communicate with families if there are additional details to share about the day.
Veterans Day Program
We are very excited to host our annual Veterans Day reception and program at Liberty Elementary again this year! All veterans in your family from any branch are invited to this special event on Friday, November 8th, at 8:30 a.m. This event is intended to celebrate and honor their service, and to help give our students a better understanding of what it means to serve our country. A continental breakfast will be offered to the veteran and his/her Liberty student-host before the program (8:30 a.m.). A special performance by our 2nd and 5th grade students will be enjoyed by everyone (9:10 a.m.)! Click here to RSVP so we know to expect your veteran at school on Friday, November 8th!.
Families of 2nd & 5th grade students are invited to attend the Veterans Day dress-rehearsal on Thursday, November 7th beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the Liberty gym. Questions about the performance can be directed to Ms. Wehrkamp at lwehrkamp@wscloud.org.
We can also use a few volunteers to help on the day of the event. Volunteers would help with the continental breakfast portion of the morning. Follow this link to lend a hand on Friday, November 8th.
Golden Leopard Award
Our Golden Leopard Award is used to recognize a Liberty staff member who has shown outstanding dedication, commitment and care for others. This is your opportunity to let them know that you, as a member of our school community, value the impact of their hard work and positive attitude. You can use this form for your nomination. Each month, Dr. Belair will present the Golden Leopard Award to be displayed in the nominees classroom. Last month's recipient was Sandy Dyas! The next deadline for nominations is Friday, November 15th. Thank you for helping to honor staff that have made an impact on your student’s learning experience!

Scholastic Book Fair
The Scholastic Book Fair sponsored by the Liberty PTA will be held next week beginning on Monday and concluding on Friday. Your child will shop during their regular library time, or they can shop with you during Family Night on Tuesday, Oct. 29th from 5:30-7:30 p.m.. At Family Night you and your family can enjoy a treat from the Columbus Coffee Company (cider, hot chocolate, specialty coffees, boba, and even shaved ice can be purchased from the truck!). There will be a lollipop pull in the lobby for a chance to win Scholastic Dollars to spend at the fair.
We also invite you to visit one of our theme rooms to see some of Liberty’s wonderful teachers reading favorite books to your kiddos. Kids are welcome to come dressed in their PJs for a cozy evening of reading! The book fair accepts cash, checks, or you can set up an eWallet for cash-free shopping with a set amount for your child to spend. Follow this link to learn more about the eWallet system of payment.
We still need a few more volunteers to help out at the fair. If you have a couple of hours during the school day, please use this link to sign-up. Volunteers will help students select books, run a register, and straighten up the bookcases. Anyone is welcome to help - grandparents, other family members, or even neighbors. Volunteers will also receive Scholastic Dollars to spend at the fair as a thank-you for their time!
Walk/Bike To School
Walk/Bike last month was a great success! It was so fun to see all the bikes and scooters parked at the racks. Our next will be the first Friday of November, the 1st. We need a couple adult volunteers to be stationed at a busy intersection and to help hand out stickers. We ask that volunteers be in position from 7:35 to 8:05 a.m. If you're available to give 30 minutes of your time, please sign up here. Everyone will receive a sticker when they arrive, including PM kindergarten students. Don’t forget bike locks if you bike. We look forward to seeing those bikes and walking shoes!
