Earlier this month, we held our second Grow and Glow Assembly! We began by celebrating our ROAR Award winners, Going for the Gold Award winners, and Blue Crew Wednesday winner. Then, we grew together as a school community by learning about the four types of conflict: a disagreement, a rude moment, a mean moment, and bullying. In buddy classrooms, students worked together to create posters showing kind and respectful ways to handle conflict. These include strategies like apologizing, telling someone to stop, waiting and cooling off, walking away, sharing and including others, talking it out, and ignoring. Be on the lookout for these posters next time you're at Southwood Glen! Please click here to view a folder of resources, including the slide deck from the assembly and ideas for continuing the conversation about types of conflict at home!
Understanding different types of conflict helps us handle situations in a kind and fair way. When we recognize what’s happening, we can solve problems more kindly and make sure everyone feels safe and respected. Kindness helps calm things down, helps everyone understand each other, and shows we care, creating an environment where everyone feels safe, heard, and respected! We also show kindness through our Blue Crew Wednesdays! Every Wednesday, SWG students and staff wear blue as a reminder to spread kindness. At our Glow and Grow assembly, we celebrate the class that wore the most blue each month!
Lastly, speaking of kindness, 11/13/2024 was World Kindness Day! The Lion Leadership Orange Team thought it would be the perfect time to spread kindness by helping our community, especially as the weather gets colder. Check out the image below for more details!
