Dear Hayshire Families,
Mother Nature threw us a curve ball and we started our week with two Flexible Instruction Days. Thank you for being flexible during these days when our district leaders are having to make difficult decisions. Safety of students, staff, and community is always our first concern. I want to give a shout out to our maintenance and custodial crews who worked long hours to make sure our facilities are safe.
On Wednesday, Reliance reached out to Hayshire. Due to current lack of drivers, they will need to split students from Bus #28. Students from #28 will split between Bus #6, #13, #35, and #50. This change will begin Monday, January 13. On Thursday, Mrs. Musone and I met with students from Bus #28 and went over the changes. Students received an information sheet. Families can also check Skyward for new pick up and drop off times. These students will wear bus tags for the week of January 13. If you have any questions, you are welcome to call the Reliance Transportation Office at 717-255-0416 or the Hayshire office at 717-846-6789, extension 1903.
Buck A Book flyers were sent home earlier this week. The Buck A Book Reading Program encourages students to love reading and to participate in community service by supporting free adult education at York Literacy Institute. Students read books, get sponsorships and earn family activity prizes from local vendors! The Buck A Book Program has been inspiriting generations of readers for 33 years!
The new year is a great opportunity to revisit the school rules. On Thursday, we had a grade level assembly. First grade read A Little Spot of Responsibility: A Story About Making Good Choices by Diane Alber. In addition to enjoying some cool songs, we reviewed the Stop Think Strategy with Mrs. Wiltshire. Next week, we'll meet with kindergarten, second grade, and third grade!
Have a great weekend!
Mrs. Thomas

Every school year at Hayshire begins with community building, identifying individual hopes and dreams, and creating classroom rules. Hopes & Dreams are goals that children want to accomplish during the school year.
Coming back to school after winter break is an opportune time to revisit individual hopes & dreams. Each class reviews what has been accomplished. Children determine if their hope & dream has been accomplished and identify what they may want to do next. To learn more, click on Revisiting Hopes and Dreams!

Central York Diversity Celebration
The CYSD Diversity Celebration is being held on February 12 from 6:00-8:00 at the HS. This event is a chance to highlight the unique experiences, perspectives, and cultures within our community. The event will feature school and community tables to explore, a selection of international treats to enjoy, and a special presentation beginning at 7:15 PM, where students and staff will have the opportunity to share "their story" through a variety of formats, including performances and spoken word.
This year, the Diversity Celebration Committee is seeking more involvement from students and staff in the K-6 buildings to participate in the celebration by sharing their stories, artwork, and other talents in the celebration of diversity and inclusion. Students and staff can write a story about their specific culture, family traditions, journey to Central, their native language, and learning English as a second language. Participants can read their own stories or choose someone else to read. In addition, students and staff can present their culture-related artwork, songs, and/or dances at the celebration.
