MESSAGE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT
Greetings MVCSD Community,
This week, our Assistant Superintendent for Business, Jose Formoso, presented the proposed 2025-2026 school year budget and answered community questions at our budget hearing. This spending plan is such an important step for our District and scholars, providing a fiscal path forward, while continuing investments in education. Thank you to everyone who attended, and I hope we were able to answer your questions about the budget. More information about the budget can be found on the District website by clicking here. The budget vote and school board elections will be held from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, May 20.
Happy Teacher Appreciation Week! Teachers throughout the District do so much for our students on a daily basis, helping them achieve their goals and become lifelong learners. This year’s Teacher Appreciation Week story highlights a few of the outstanding teachers who have made a mark on their scholars’ lives. Thank you for everything you do, teachers!
Career and Technical Education Week has been happening at Mount Vernon High School all week, and students in Entrepreneurship classes presented their business ideas at the first ever CTE Entrepreneurship Expo. Students also had the opportunity to learn from professors from the College of Westchester while they created their projects. The businesses they created were very well thought out, making it clear that we have some future businessmen and women at MVHS! Today, students also participated in the CTE/Transition Fair, learning about different job and educational opportunities in the trades.
This week’s Senior Spotlight Series highlights a high-achieving Mount Vernon STEAM Academy student, Mark Jaikaran. Mark’s goal is to become a surgeon, and he is well on his way to achieving that! He has high grades, a rigorous load of AP classes, and he completed over 100 hours of community service with Westchester Medical Group. Good luck in college! Mount Vernon is rooting for your success.
Kindest Regards,
Dr. K. Veronica Smith
Acting Superintendent of Schools
