Welcome to ESY 2021
Welcome D41 Students to Extended School Year (ESY) 2021!
On behalf of the staff from the Cooperative Association of Special Education (CASE), D41 administration and staff, I want to welcome you to a wonderful summer planned to support your student’s maintenance of skills to prepare for the start of the 2021-2022 school year. As you know, ESY is June 8th through July 15th at Churchill Elementary School 240 Geneva Road, Glen Ellyn. You should have received your student’s assignment and time of attendance from Natalie Heinrich, ESY Principal. If your child has transportation, you will be hearing from Hopewell Transportation between tomorrow, June 4th, and Monday, June 7th.
As an additional service, we are providing saliva surveillance for our D41 families if desired. If you are a family who has requested this, your student’s saliva kits will be available for pick-up on Monday, June 7th at Churchill Elementary between 9:15 - 12:30. Please just come to the front door and let them know you are picking up the kit. CASE will appreciate this since Tuesday, the first day of ESY, will be very busy! If your student is saliva testing, a sample must be returned each Wednesday before 1:00 pm. A handful of students will be tested via BinaxNOW in lieu of saliva testing. These students will have a prearranged time for testing with District 41 Nurse Supervisor, Katie Adduci. For those of you who have a student attending ESY remotely or who are not choosing to have your student screened, you do not need to be concerned with picking up or returning saliva samples. The dates for screening are as follows:
WEEK 1
6/7 or 6/8 BinaxNOW
6/9 Saliva surveillance
WEEK 2
6/14 or 6/15 BinaxNOW
6/16 Saliva Surveillance
WEEK 3
6/21 or 6/22 BinaxNOW
6/23 Saliva Surveillance
WEEK 4
6/28 or 6/29 BinaxNOW
6/30 Saliva Surveillance
WEEK 5
7/7 LAST ESY Saliva Surveillance - (NO BinaxNOW)
WEEK 6
7/12 or 7/13 LAST BinaxNOW - (NO Saliva Surveillance)
If your student is not feeling well, please follow the procedures given to you by the CASE ESY team. Be sure to share your child's symptoms to help with follow-up. The CASE staff is trained and will continue to practice six feet distancing as well as mask wearing with staff and students so the impact on students needing to quarantine should there be a positive COVID case should be minimal.
We appreciate your cooperation in keeping our students safe and helping them to have an enjoyable and productive ESY experience in 2021!
Sincerely,
Laurel O’Brien
