A note from Principal Marvel
It is never too early to start thinking about next school year. Counselors and administration have been busy working on the master schedule. Last week, counselors finished up their final scheduling presentations with students. I encourage parents to have conversations with their student(s) concerning appropriate course selections. Many parents have heard me talk about guardrails. It is important to give students choice, but that choice has to have some parameters. Here are a couple of things to consider:
- Your student wants to go into the trades post-high school. Wasilla High School offers a number of CTE (Career and Technical Education) courses where students can earn real-world, industry recognized certifications. These same certifications that are free to our students would cost between $3000-5000 post-secondary. I would encourage parents whose child is interested in the trades to take courses such as Construction Trades, Auto 1-4, Architectural Drafting, Fire Fighting 1-2, and JROTC. It pains me to see seniors who are planning to enter the workforce, trade school or military taking no CTE classes their junior or senior year.
- Your student wants to go to college post-high school. Wasilla High School offers 14 AP (Advanced Placement) courses. If college or university is the goal then your child should be preparing themselves with challenging AP courses. Again, it pains me when I speak with students who are planning to go to college, but do not have a single AP course in their class schedule their senior year. They explain to me that they are taking an easier course load because it is their senior year. There are many flaws to this argument. The biggest flaw is that students do not realize that taking AP courses will give them an understanding of what it takes to be successful in college, how to maximize their study habits and work through academically challenging course content.
- Your student does not know what they want to do post-high school. That is completely ok. Many of us had this same dilemma when we were teenagers. Being honest, this is where most high school students are. I encourage parents to steer them into taking a variety of AP and CTE courses. There is nothing wrong with taking, for example, AP Biology and Construction Trades or AP World History and Auto 1. In fact, this would be my wish for all of our students.
I know that I sound like a broken record and these are things you have heard me say before. Warrior Nation has high expectations for all students and we believe when students, just like adults, are challenged to do more … they do more and they thrive. Please have conversations with your student(s) about appropriate course requests for next school year.
Have a wonderful Spring Break and, as always, thank you for sharing your children with us!

2025-26 Boundary Exemptions
Boundary Exempt applications for the 2025/26 school year are now available through your ParentVue account.
Please remember that if you currently have a student that is on a boundary exemption, you need to fill out a new application every year. The sooner we receive those forms, the better we can plan for next year’s schedule. All boundary exemptions are done through ParentVue. You must submit the Boundary Exempt request and receive approval from the school PRIOR to filling out an Online Registration. You will see two different versions of the Boundary Exemption application, one for this school year and another one for the next school year. Follow the instructions for online registration and select the packet labeled “2025/2026 Boundary Exempt Request” to submit a boundary exempt request for next school year.
