Week 7: September 23-27
9/22/24

This week, I want to start by reflecting on what an incredible Homecoming week it was for our students, showcasing the amazing character of the Pearland High School community. Whether it was our Ag students creating one of the largest mums we’ve ever seen, students and teachers fully embracing the spirit of our dress-up days, the energy and excitement of our pep rallies, or the way our students came together at Oiler Fest to celebrate and strengthen our sense of community—it was a week that truly highlighted the heart of PHS. I was especially proud of the outstanding behavior your students displayed throughout the events, particularly during Oiler Fest, where we came together for a carnival that reminded us all just how strong our PHS family is.
While school often focuses on academics, this week was a beautiful reminder that building character is just as important. There may not be a state test to measure it, but if there were, PHS would be at the top of that list. Our students, from all walks of life and backgrounds, came together with pride, honor, and success—showcasing the very best of who we are as Oilers.
There are countless stories from this week that I could share, but one in particular truly touched my heart: the story of our Homecoming King and Queen, Keegan and Lili. These two have been friends since elementary school. When they were just six years old, Keegan was a member of the Pearland Patriots little league football team, and Lili was cheering on the sidelines with the Pearland Patriettes. Fast forward to this year, where not only did they both run for homecoming court, but Keegan made sure to reach out to Lili, encouraging her to run with him. He told his mom that he wanted Lili to "get the crown she deserves."
Lili is an incredibly social and involved student, active in FFA and Special Olympics, while Keegan shines as a talented athlete and excellent academic student. But what really struck me was not just their enduring friendship but how their peers saw them for the kind, charismatic, and caring leaders they are. Their peers at PHS recognized them both, crowning them Homecoming King and Queen, a true testament to the respect and admiration they’ve earned from the PHS community.
That said, I want to emphasize that any of our homecoming candidates would have been truly remarkable and deserving of the title. The students of PHS showcased their outstanding character by selecting members of the homecoming court not just for popularity or achievements, but for being great people who are future leaders. This speaks volumes about who we are as a school, and I couldn’t be more proud.
It’s stories like these that remind us that beyond the grades and test scores, we are building leaders, friends, and compassionate citizens. I couldn’t be more proud of our students, and I look forward to seeing many more moments of pride, honor, and success as the year goes on. Thank you for being part of this amazing community!
SAT/PSAT Day: October 23rd
On October 23rd, we will be hosting PSAT and SAT Day at Pearland High School. All 10th and 11th graders will take the PSAT, while students who have signed up for the SAT will take theirs during the school day. The PSAT is a great opportunity for our 10th and 11th graders, as it not only provides valuable practice for the SAT but also opens up opportunities for scholarships and recognition through programs like the National Merit Scholarship.
For seniors who are not testing, we’re excited to introduce something new this year! They will have the chance to choose from a variety of unique sessions designed to prepare them for life after high school. These sessions may include practical skills such as how to change a tire, financial management, cooking in a dorm room, tips to prepare for college, career opportunities, stress management, and much more.
If you are the parent of a 10th or 11th grader and would prefer that your student not take the PSAT, please complete this form by Thursday, September 26th.

Joining the PTA is an excellent way for parents to actively participate in their child's education and school community. By being involved in the PTA, parents can stay informed about school events, advocate for important issues, and collaborate with teachers and staff to enhance the educational experience for all students. The PTA provides a platform for parents to contribute to positive changes, and help create a supportive environment that fosters student growth and success. Plus, it’s a great way to meet other parents and build a strong network within the school community.
