We are very proud of our students and thank them for all their hard work this year. We have two remaining concerts this year- band and chorus (dates and times can be found below) and I encourage families to come and enjoy the performances.

Tap app
The Spencerport Central School District is now utilizing Tap App, a web-based security application designed to immediately notify staff and administrators of an emergency situation. When activated, the app generates an audible alert on district devices and cell phones and instantly contacts our security team, local authorities, and emergency responders. The sound is similar to an "Amber Alert".
We are notifying our families of this added security measure, so that you may share this information with your student in preparation for emergency drills. While this app will enhance our responsiveness, we do not want these drills to be unnecessarily stressful for our students.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions.
Student survey
We thank you and your family for being our valued partners as we work together to educate the children in our district. Our parents, staff and community have clearly communicated to us that mental health and student behavior must be a priority in our work. Building our social-emotional learning skills has been an integral part of this effort and we asked students in grades three through twelve to reflect on their own experiences and approaches to learning via an online survey in the fall.
We will be giving this survey again during the week of May 28, 2024. The survey shouldn’t take more than 15 minutes to complete. The SEL student survey data will be particularly helpful to ensure that the social and emotional learning actions are impactful, and decide whether to continue or change what we are doing. We are reflecting on our strengths and areas for growth based on the aggregate data, and will be using this to inform initiatives we will be putting into place in the future.
We are asking that all of our students in grades three through twelve participate in the surveys, as their responses will provide invaluable insights into their experiences and how we can improve and adapt our district to their needs. The responses to these surveys will be completely confidential, similar to other academic or attendance data.
If you have any questions about this survey, please contact our Director of Student Services, Tim O'Connor, at (585) 349-5151 or toconnor@spencerportschools.org.
Laptops
As in years past, our current 6th and 7th grade students will keep their laptops over the summer. 8th grade students will return their computers, charging cords, and cases in technology class on June 17 and June 18. 8th grade students will receive new laptops in the fall at the HS.
Orientation dates
Orientation for the 2024/2025 school year has been scheduled for the following dates/times:
- 7th/8th grade students: Wednesday, August 28, 2024, from 8:00-11:00 a.m. (I will send a letter home in July with additional information)
- 9th grade orientation: Thursday, August 29, 2024 – the HS will send specific information over the summer regarding orientation.
Cell phone policy
Students are permitted to use their cell phone during passing time and in lunch (cell phone use is not permitted in classrooms). Please note that personal technology may not be used for audio or video recordings, when such use interferes with the operation of the school; or infringes upon the general health, safety and welfare of students or employees. This is a violation of our acceptable use and school board policy as it relates to the use of personal technology devices.
8th grade moving up day
Save the date! Our moving up day ceremony will be held on Monday, June 17, 2024 at the HS PAC. The ceremony will begin at 1:30 p.m.
8th grade Boston trip update
Our 8th grade trip advisor, Mrs. Woodard, continues to prepare for our upcoming trip. Please do not hesitate to reach out to her directly with any questions. Below is a reminder regarding medications for the trip that I shared in my last update:
Medications on our 8th Grade Boston Trip (from our nurses’ office):
We are now accepting medications and medication orders in the Health Office for the Boston Trip.
- Doctor’s orders & medications must be received by Wednesday, May 15, 2024. Medications will not be accepted after this date.
- If your student needs ANY medications on the trip the following items need to be brought to the nurse by a parent/guardian:
- Doctor Orders
- Medication in original bottle or packaging
- While in the health office dropping off medication, you will also need to fill out parent permission and parental assessment forms.
- Please note that medications cannot be sent in with students to school, they must be dropped off by a parent/guardian.
- Please note the nurse will bring Tylenol and ibuprofen for those with medication orders, so these medications will not need to be brought to the health office.
- Prescription medications: the exact number of pills your student will need for the trip must be in the original labeled prescription bottle/container.
- Over the counter medications should be in an unopened, travel-sized bottle.
Medications on the trip
- Wednesday, June 5, morning medications need to be given at home before dropping off your student.
- Friday, June 7, evening/night medications need to be given at home after picking up your student.
If you have any questions, please contact the nurses at 585-349-5351 or cosgrovehealthofficestaff@spencerportschools.org.
Student meeting for the Boston trip
There will be a meeting for all students attending the 8th grade Boston trip on Friday, May 31, during advisement in gym 1. Students will meet their chaperone to review our itinerary and expectations.
In Conclusion
Sunday, May 12, is Mother’s Day. I want to take a moment to wish all of our mothers, stepmothers, grandmothers, and mother figures a happy Mother’s Day. I hope you have a wonderful day!
Thank you for your continued partnership. I hope you and your family have a wonderful weekend. As always, please reach out if you need anything.
