Spring is just around the corner, and it brings with it a sense of renewal and new beginnings. As the weather warms up and the flowers start to bloom, we are reminded that this season is a perfect time for growth, both inside and outside the classroom.

I want to take this opportunity to remind all our students to continue practicing our core values:

🌟 Be Respectful: Treat others with kindness and consideration. This includes being respectful of both your peers and the staff in the classroom. Every day is a chance to show empathy and understanding toward those around you.
🌟 Be Responsible: Take pride in your learning and actions. From completing assignments to helping around school, your efforts make a difference.
🌟 Be Safe: Stay aware of your surroundings and make safe choices. Remember that safety is key, whether in the classroom, on the playground, or walking to and from school.

A Reminder
Recently, we’ve seen an uptick in incidents of unkind words, disruption in the classroom, and unsafe play. We want to remind everyone that our school is a place where respect and kindness are expected from all.

As we embrace the new season, let's continue to work together to make our school a positive, supportive, and safe environment for all. Here’s to a fantastic spring filled with growth and exciting opportunities!

Patriotic Day

We love to celebrate your children's hard work, good behavior and birthdays 🎉 However, to stay in line with TUSD's wellness policy, we ask our families to refrain from sending food items for classroom celebrations and, although not necessary, celebrate with non-food items instead. While cupcakes, cakes, donuts, and other treats are yummy, some of our kiddos have food allergies and some families may not want their child to eat those types of treats. Also, be sure to contact the teacher in advance if any non-food items will be brought to school. We appreciate your understanding.

~ If your child's absence is not reported, it will be marked as unexcused.

~ If your child will be absent three or more days, please notify the teacher and the Attendance Office (310-533-4484) so that classwork can be prepared by the teacher for your child before the absences begin.

~ If you need to pick up your child early for an appointment, please notify your child's teacher via email and cc woodattendance@tusd.org.

If your child will be absent for three or more days, your child is eligible for an Independent Study Contract, which keeps your student up to date on class work.

Please advise your child's teacher in advance as soon as possible when you know your child will be absent for three or more days. You may email, call, or send a message to the teacher and the attendance office (woodattendance@tusd.org) so they have time to put together a lesson plan for your student. It is your responsibility to report the absence, obtain the study contract and any materials online or in person before the absence. Upon your student’s return to school, be sure the completed assignments are provided to the teacher in order for your student to receive credit. If you have any questions about the assignments, be sure to contact the teacher.

Friendly reminder to please write your child's name on their jackets, water bottles, and lunch boxes. Please remind your students to check for any lost items at our lost and found area next to our school library. Parents, you are welcome to check the lost and found during drop offs and/or pick up time. Thank you!

Students were administered the i-Ready assessment in both Reading and Math at the beginning of this school year. This diagnostic is an adaptive assessment that identifies students’ strengths and opportunities for growth, which is important information for teachers as they work with students throughout the school year.
