WEEKLY UPDATE - November 9, 2023
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Hello,
I would like to give a special shout-out to our band and cheerleaders as they lined the streets of Decatur leading to the old courthouse this afternoon. Our students performed and cheered as participants of Leadership Georgia strolled up Clairemont. After the performance, I met one of our dedicated crossing guards, and he spoke about the delicious lunch that was prepared by our culinary arts students for the Crossing Guard luncheon today. He congratulated me for having such friendly and respectful students. Finally, if you cannot make it to the football game tomorrow night, please tune into the NFHS Network to watch. Our team will travel the 253 miles to Waycross, Georgia to take on Ware County.
Go Bulldogs!

๐Marching Band Crowned: GRAND CHAMPION of the Silver Division๐
The Decatur High School Marching Band just wrapped up their competitive season with a massive win at the White Columns Invitational hosted by Milton High School! The band totally rocked the house, scoring the highest ratings in all categories and nabbing first place in Music performance, Visual Performance, and General Effect. This triumphantly crowned the band as the top dogs in the AAA class, and that's not all - they earned the prestigious title of **GRAND CHAMPION of the Silver Division**! (FYI, the Silver Division packs a punch, combining the A, AA, & AAA classes, and we even outscored some bands in the 4A & 5A classes!) Talk about a mind-blowing accomplishment for our marching band. Let's give them a round of applause for a phenomenal season!

Adventures with DHS: Field Trips Galore!
IB Design Tech students Visit Georgia Tech!
This week, Mr. Archer's IB Design Tech students visited the Georgia Institute of Technology. The team kicked things off with a Materials Science and Industrial Design department tour. A professor provided insight into Material Sciences, followed by a visit to the maker's space. With hands-on creativity in the air, students put their talents to work and got to sketching at one of the design spaces on campus. Afterward, they refueled with a tasty lunch at the John Lewis Student Center, where they visited some DHS alumni. What a day!
