Learning Experiences at DAF
Band Concerts
The very next week Mrs Makarchuk and our amazing bands and soloists wowed the crowd with some toe tapping music. We all had more desserts then we could handle and left with a smile on our faces from the pride we took in how well our kiddos played their instruments.
Science Olympics
This year’s Horizon School Division Science Olympics focused on natural energy, with a special emphasis on wind turbines. Our students from Grades 6 to 8 formed three teams and collaborated exceptionally well throughout the event. Their creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving skills were on full display, and they represented our school with pride. Great job, team!
Esports
We’re excited to share that our school has launched a brand-new esports team—and we're off to an amazing start! Our team is currently on a winning streak, showing great skill, strategy, and teamwork. One of our standout players is currently ranked 3rd in the league, and the entire team continues to grow stronger with each match. Go team! A special shout out to Mrs Cayford for starting up this new adventure.
Soup Kitchen Volunteers
Mrs. Sawchuk has been leading a meaningful initiative by taking staff and student volunteers to the local soup kitchen to help prepare meals for those in need. As part of her Language Arts unit on poverty, she also invited a soup kitchen coordinator to speak with students about the realities of poverty in our communities. This powerful learning experience has helped students connect classroom learning with real-world compassion and service.
DAF March Madness
We have March Madness here at DAF!! Our students have chosen their “Better Than Brackets” teams for their classroom doors for the NCAA Basketball tournament! May the odds be in your favour!
Storm Chaser Chris Chittick
We had an electrifying visit from professional storm chaser Chris Chittick! Chris captivated our students with an unforgettable presentation on storms, weather systems, and what it takes to become a professional storm chaser. His real-life stories and incredible footage had students on the edge of their seats from start to finish. It was an inspiring and high-energy learning experience they won’t soon forget!
Entrepreneurship Fair
Our Entrepreneurship Fair was officially up and running! Students showcased their creativity and business savvy during the lunch hour. We appreciate all who stopped by to support our young entrepreneurs, and check out the amazing products and services they developed!
Cultural Fair
Our Cultural Learning CTF class hosted a vibrant and educational Cultural Fair, inviting all classes to take part. Students showcased their chosen countries with informative displays and even offered delicious cultural dishes to those who stopped by. It was a fantastic opportunity for the whole school to learn more about global cultures and celebrate diversity through food, facts, and fun!
Grade 6 Field Trip to Lethbridge Polytechnic and Helen Schuler Nature Center
Our Grade 6 students recently enjoyed an exciting and educational field trip to Lethbridge! They explored forest ecosystems and local wildlife at the Helen Schuler Nature Centre and got a hands-on look at career opportunities during a visit to Lethbridge College. Highlights included learning about the Hubbard Collection and the impressive aquaponics system. A big thank-you to both locations for providing such engaging and inspiring experiences for our students!
It was such a gorgeous day with a large amount of snow so what else were we supposed to do? We went outside and built snowmen.
Grade 7 skating day
Our Grade 7 students had a fantastic Phys. Ed. class at the rink on Friday! For many, it was their very first time on skates—a memorable experience filled with fun, laughter, and a few wobbly moments. It was wonderful to see students trying something new and cheering each other on. A big thank-you to Mrs Krchnak and everyone who helped make it happen!
