November 2024
Welcome to November! As we embrace the cooler weather and the spirit of gratitude, we have an exciting month ahead filled with activities, learning opportunities, and community events.
Important Dates:
November 6: Election Day (No School)
November 11: Veterans Day Assembly
November 18: Franklin Mall Food Drive Begins
November 25-26: Parent Teacher Conferences (No School)
November 27-29: Thanksgiving Break (No School)
Highlights This Month:
Veterans Day Assembly: Join us on November 10 as we honor our veterans. We encourage students to invite family members who have served in the military.
Franklin Mall Food Drive: We are collecting non-perishable food items to support our local community. The Food Drive will go from November 18th- December 6th.
Tips for a Successful Month:
Stay Organized: With the 2nd Quarter just starting, make sure to keep track of your assignments and projects.
Practice Gratitude: Take a moment each day to reflect on what you’re thankful for. It’s a great way to stay positive!
Thank you for your continued support and involvement in our school community. Let’s make November a fantastic month together!
The Core Value of November is RESPONSIBILITY.
Responsibility means to be dependable, honor your commitments, and to be prepared. What does that look like for a responsible member of the staff and students: on time to school and to class, lessons are prepared, materials are ready to go, homework is completed, all materials are in class with them (including a pencil), and they are engaged in the topic being taught (PARTICIPATION! Teachers LOVE it).

6th grade November News
Hard to believe that we are in the second quarter already! Time sure flies when you are having fun! Speaking of fun….the Social Studies classes will be studying Life in Ancient Egypt and Pyramids. In Science, the students will be digging more into the inner workings of planet Earth and finding some fossils along the way. While in Language Arts classes, your student will be reading the novel Bud, Not Buddy and applying the reading skills we’ve been practicing so far this year. In Advanced math, students will be working on ratios and comparing unit prices to learn to be a smart consumer. In regular math, students will be working on solving expressions with an emphasis being placed on order of operations. They will also be working on analyzing word problems.
The teachers would like to congratulate Olivia Hernandez and Isaac Sanchez as being our Students of the Month! Their hard work and kindness have not gone unnoticed!
7th Grade News
We are now in the 2nd quarter! Please remember that parent/teacher conferences are right around the corner on November 25th & 26th. If you would like a conference with your student’s team of teachers, please email any of them to get on the schedule.
We know this is OLD NEWS, but it’s so important: Please ensure that Chromebooks are charged nightly and brought to school with the charger. Please check Google Classroom and TeacherEase for work and grades. The TeacherEase program has complications with Google Classroom in terms of comments. If you are seeing an assignment marked as “missing” but it has a grade, please go to Google Classroom and hit “turn in” or “mark as done.” This will take care of the “missing” label.
ELA classes are finishing up their persuasive posters on space and will be diving into our first novel unit with The Giver. This novel focuses on how the setting creates conflict for the characters and how one character must make the ultimate sacrifice to save the others from themselves.
In science, we are continuing our Chemistry unit. We are learning about elements, atoms, and the Periodic Table. We will concentrate on the Periodic Table through November 15th, which is the end date of the in-class project, The Element Project.
In social studies, the students are fighting the American Revolution and exploring the Founding Father’s efforts to create the United States in the late 1700s. Along the way, we will be getting to know important figures like George Washington, John Adams, and Thomas Jefferson along with discussing key events like the battles of Saratoga and Yorktown and the Constitutional Convention.
In the math classes, we are just starting our unit on algebraic expressions. During this unit, the students will learn about algebraic expressions, sequences, the Distributive Property, adding, subtracting, and factoring expressions. This is our introduction into algebra, as we will be moving on to equations next.
In pre-algebra, we are finishing up our unit on probability. During this unit, the students are learning about theoretical and experimental probability, dependent and independent events, sample space, simulations and using probability to make predictions. After we finish up our unit on probability, we will be moving on to our geometry unit.
The 7th-grade team is implementing the BUGS (Bringing Up Grades Successfully) program which began on September 11th. Students have the opportunity to stay after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays until 3:45. During this time, students are able to get extra help that may be needed in their classes. Students should look for the BUGS sign that will be located outside of the classroom where BUGS is taking place each day.
The Students of the Month for October are Cole Mikyska and Ava Basso. Great job to two great kids! Keep up the excellent work. We are proud of you.
8th Grade News
We are so proud of our 8th graders! We made it through the first quarter and they are getting back into the swing of things. Google Classroom is our students’ best organizational tool for looking at class agendas, notes, and assignments. TeacherEase is still the best way to keep track of missing assignments. Please check daily. Please make sure your child has the supplies they need for each class so they can be organized and prepared. Many students are running out of pencils and colored pencils. You can find what each subject area is up to as you read below…
History: We are finishing up Chapter 23, WWI. Students learned about the causes of WWI, major battles, and American involvement. Key points of study include u-boats and submarine warfare, trench warfare, propaganda, the sinking of the Lusitania, the Selective Service Act, President Wilson, the Zimmerman telegram, the Treaty of Versailles. We will move into chapter 24, the Jazz Age, to finish out the month.
Language Arts:
The 8th Grade Language Arts classes are reading short stories to identify the elements of literature and plot. After we are finished going through all of the elements of literature and plot individually, we will move on to reading “Flowers for Algernon” written by Daniel Keyes. This will be our culminating short story, and with it, we will review and discuss figurative language. We will be working on adjectives and then verbs in the upcoming weeks.
Math:
We just started chapter 3 on Equations in One Variable where we have covered the constant rate of change, slope, Equations in y = mx form and slope-intercept form. We will be continuing on through chapter 3 with graphing a line using intercepts, and writing linear equations. We will be ending the chapter with systems of equations.
Science:
We have finished our periodic table review unit and students did a great job. We will be moving into our unit on interactions of matter (chemistry) next. Please make sure students are staying up to date on their assignments because this subject matter will be a little more challenging than the 1st quarter. Students should check on Google Classroom for any missed notes and the agenda and on TeacherEase for their grades.
Students of the Month: Our 8th grade Students of the Month are Cailen Russell and Abbie Mantei. These are two hard working students who have great attitudes and are kind to others. They are great role models!
