Alabama School Climate Surveys
In accordance with the Principal Act, we are seeking to understand the school experiences of administrators, instructional staff, students (Grades 5-12), and families through the Alabama School Climate Surveys.
These surveys are a coordinated effort with school administrators to survey instructional staff, students, and parents. We encourage survey participation so that we can meet the data collection requirements of the law and learn how to support school climate improvement. These surveys are designed to seek the viewpoints of the different school community groups.
Heart of the Eagle Award Recipients
Hewitt-Trussville High School coaches Taylor Burt and Jeff Mauldin were presented with the Heart of the Eagle Award during the Scouting America Greater Alabama Council’s Eastern Area Leadership Breakfast at the Trussville Civic Center Tuesday morning.
Local leaders and community members gathered to recognize the honorees and support the scouts, raising over $17,000 for the organization.
Burt has spent the last eight seasons building the Lady Huskies into one of the top programs in Alabama, winning four state titles, and seeing 30 of her former student athletes go on to play at the collegiate level.
Mauldin became the youngest coach in Alabama high school history to reach 700 wins last season, including the 2016 state championship game with the Huskies, and was inducted into the Alabama Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame.
Paine Elementary Math Team Wins Perennial Math Championship
We are beyond proud to announce that our incredible PES Math Team has claimed FIRST PLACE in the Spring Perennial Competition—outperforming 45 teams from across the state!
A huge shoutout to Mrs. Burns for her outstanding guidance and leadership! Her dedication and support have helped shape these brilliant minds into champions!
Read Across America Week Door Decorating Contest at Cahaba
To celebrate Read Across America Week, classrooms participated in a door decorating contest inspired by their favorite books. With the help of parents, teachers transformed their doors into colorful, creative displays showcasing stories their classes are reading.
Community members volunteered as judges, selecting winners in four categories:
🏆 Most Artistic – Mrs. Meredith McDonald
🎨 Most Creative – Mrs. Tina Fortenberry
📖 Best Use of Student Work – Mrs. Amanda Pennington
🌟 Best Overall – Ms. Jourdan Barnett
Thank you to all who participated and helped bring the magic of reading to life!
Heart Screenings Provided to HTHS Students
In collaboration with Heart For Athletes, Christopher Larsen Foundation, and Hewitt Trussville High School FOCUS Club, heart screenings were provided for 306 students on March 18. This first-time screening program was a huge success! We appreciate all the parents and students who took advantage of this opportunity.
On screening day, the cardiologist contacted parents of students whose screening showed evidence that further attention was needed. The written reports for all athletes were sealed in an envelope and given to the coaches to distribute to their teams. Non-athlete students have been asked to pick up the report from the health room.
Magnolia's GaTE Marketplace
GaTE students and their families under the leadership of Wendy Mann, GaTE Teacher, held their annual GaTE Marketplace at Magnolia recently.
Paine Kindergarten Enjoys St. Patrick's Day Science Experiment
Our super scientists were back in action today! We worked together with our table partners to create "walking water rainbows". Students got to put food coloring into the water cups. Then we added folded paper towels to connect the filled cups with the empty cups. We made predictions about what would happen.
We watched the cups throughout the day and noticed changes that were happening. Colored water was traveling up the paper towels and down into the empty cups. We found out that when two primary colors mix together, they create a secondary color! We also learned the word "absorbent" and found out that is why paper towels work great to clean up spills. They are absorbent and soak up the liquid!
The rainbow science was perfect for St. Patrick's Day. We also set leprechaun traps. Unfortunately we didn't catch a leprechaun, but he left clues behind to let us know he had visited!
