2025 Jefferson County Family Resource Center and Grace Klein 2025 food box distribution dates. As always, Bessemer is the 2nd Friday of every month and Birmingham is the 4th Friday of every month (with the exception of November and December. They always start at 1pm and end when we run out of boxes.

Poverty Simulation
We have space for 80 participants and 23 volunteers for the upcoming Poverty Simulation on April 3rd. Make sure that you only sign up for ONE of the slots (either participant OR volunteer). Volunteers will need to arrive by 8:30am to be trained on their role in the simulation.

Bachelor of Science with a Major in Public Health
The Bachelor of Science with a major in Public Health offers two concentrations: Health Professions and Health Education and Promotion. The curriculum focuses on health disparities, environmental health, stress management, personal health, nutrition, statistics and other related topics specific to the concentrations. Graduates of the program will be eligible to sit for the Certified Health Education Specialist or Certified Public Health professional certification exams.
TROY University Professional Development for Social Workers
There are two upcoming events at the Troy Campus of Troy University that we believe will enrich our learning community:

A special thank you to Jeremy Sherer, Assistant United States Attorney, who updates us on current government grants. The following information is from his 2/18/25 Funding Opportunities Update.
"Over the past few weeks, many grant opportunities that had been released by various federal agencies have been recalled. For the DOJ grants that have been recalled, all still currently appear on DOJ’s FY ’25 Program Plan and are slated to be re-released later this fiscal year - Fiscal Year 2025 DOJ Program Plan. Attached, below, and linked on the USAO website (Currently Available Federal Grant Opportunities) are a revised listing of public safety currently being advertised.
Veterans Affairs Supportive Services for Veteran Families (250 Expected Awards) - Due March 3, 2025
The SSVF Program’s purpose is to provide supportive services grants to private non-profit organizations and consumer cooperatives who will coordinate or provide supportive services to very low-income Veteran families who (i) are residing in permanent housing and at risk of becoming homeless, (ii) are homeless and scheduled to become residents of permanent housing within a specified time period or (iii) after exiting permanent housing within a specified time period, are seeking other housing that is responsive to such low-income Veteran family’s needs and preferences. SSVF delivers services using a housing-first approach that emphasizes permanent housing placement and supportive services as the primary objectives.
The purpose of RCORP – Overdose Response is to support improving health care in rural areas by addressing their immediate and short-term needs related to the provision of substance use disorder services.
The initiative’s goal is to adapt, document, implement, evaluate, and disseminate street medicine interventions that effectively respond to the needs of people with HIV who are unsheltered.
Healthy Tomorrows Partnership for Children Program (Six Expected Awards) - Due March 17, 2025
The purpose of the Healthy Tomorrows Partnership for Children Program is to support community-based projects that promote access to preventive clinical and public health services for underserved children.
The intent of HVRP is to enable America’s veterans to reach their full employment potential and obtain high-quality career outcomes for veterans experiencing and at risk of homelessness.
Community Safety Grant (Seven Expected Awards) - Due March 17, 2025
Community Safety Grants provide funding to nonprofit organizations whose mission includes activities to enhance the capability of communities to prepare for and respond to hazmat accidents and incidents.
Delta Region Community Health Systems Development Program (1 Expected Award) - Due March 18, 2025
The Delta Region Community Health Systems Development Program provides comprehensive, multi-year technical assistance (TA) to help rural healthcare organizations in the rural counties and parishes of the Delta region improve healthcare services.
The purpose of this funding opportunity is to help jurisdictions improve community response to incidents of domestic violence where a child is present in the household.
Rural Communities Opioid Response Program – Pathways (12 Expected Awards) - Due April 14, 2025
The purpose of RCORP-Pathways is to create innovative new youth-focused behavioral health care support programs, while also offering behavioral health care career pathway opportunities in rural communities.
Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities (800 Expected Awards) - Due April 18, 2025
The Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities grant program makes federal funds available to states and local governments for hazard mitigation activities.
The purpose of this Rural Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE) Planning and Development program is to improve health care in rural areas, including expanding access to medical care and long-term services, for rural aging populations by expanding PACE programs into rural areas."
